Super Smash Bros. Ultimate represents games in several different ways, so there is no single verified total of source games across its entire content. The clearest complete answer is its playable fighter roster: Nintendo groups fighters by series, while stages, music, spirits and other references bring in additional worlds. The lists below distinguish fighter-origin series from DLC and explain why they are not an exhaustive inventory of every game represented.
Which games are represented by playable fighters?
Nintendo’s official fighter catalog groups the roster by series. It is the best guide to which game worlds are represented by playable fighters, including returning fighters and DLC additions. The catalog organizes characters into series rather than supplying one exhaustive list of every individual game they may have appeared in.

The roster spans Nintendo series such as Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Yoshi, Kirby, Star Fox, Pokémon, EarthBound, F-Zero, Ice Climber, Fire Emblem, Game & Watch, Kid Icarus, Wario, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade Chronicles and Splatoon. It also includes series such as Metal Gear, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Bayonetta, Castlevania and Duck Hunt, alongside other entries shown in Nintendo’s catalog. Consult the catalog for its complete series grouping, including how it handles Echo Fighters and characters with shared origins.

Its features page lists 74 fighters plus DLC; that count includes Echo Fighters and treats Pokémon Trainer as one fighter. The 74 figure is a fighter count, not a count of represented games or series. Nintendo’s features page also lists more than 100 stages and more than 800 tracks, which are separate measures of content.

Which game series are represented by DLC fighters?
Nintendo Support lists eleven Challenger Packs across the two Fighters Passes. Their fighters bring in the following series and game worlds:
- Fighters Pass Vol. 1, Challenger Packs 1–5: Persona (Joker), Dragon Quest (Hero), Banjo-Kazooie, Fatal Fury (Terry) and Fire Emblem (Byleth).
- Fighters Pass Vol. 2, Challenger Packs 6–11: ARMS (Min Min), Minecraft (Steve and Alex), Final Fantasy VII (Sephiroth), Xenoblade Chronicles (Pyra/Mythra), Tekken (Kazuya) and Kingdom Hearts (Sora).
- Standalone DLC: Piranha Plant is a separate fighter, not part of either Fighters Pass.
Each Challenger Pack includes a fighter, a stage and music. Piranha Plant is the exception: it does not come with a stage or music. Fighters Pass Vol. 1 includes an exclusive Rex Mii Fighter costume, and Vol. 2 includes an Ancient Soldier Mii Fighter costume. See Nintendo Support’s Challenger Pack and Fighters Pass details for the full pack list and inclusions.
Why do stages, music and spirits add more represented games?
A fighter-origin list is not a complete catalog of the game references in Ultimate. Stages, music, spirits, items and other content draw on worlds beyond those represented by playable fighters. Nintendo describes spirits as game characters with abilities that can boost fighters in battle; they also appear in spirit battles. Its spirits overview explains the feature but does not provide a unified, exhaustive index of the original games represented by spirits.

The total across fighter origins, stage origins, music, spirits and other references requires a different inventory for each content type. Nintendo’s published figures of more than 100 stages and more than 800 tracks describe the amount of content, not how many source games it represents.

Does the Nintendo Switch game include every represented fighter?
No. Nintendo lists Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a physical Nintendo Switch game, while the Challenger Packs, Fighters Passes and standalone Piranha Plant are DLC. Treat the base game and optional fighter content as separate purchases; a physical base-game copy should not be assumed to include every DLC fighter. Nintendo’s store listing for the Nintendo Switch edition identifies the physical product, and Nintendo’s game page says Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online play.
