Pokémon Omega Ruby is a Generation VI game. It is a Nintendo 3DS remake of the Generation III Game Boy Advance game Pokémon Ruby. So Omega Ruby is Gen 6; the original Ruby is Gen 3.
Why the generation label can be confusing
“Generation” refers to the era of the Pokémon game being discussed, not the generation of the story or game it remakes. Omega Ruby belongs to Generation VI, even though its source game, Pokémon Ruby, belongs to Generation III. Calling Omega Ruby a “Gen 3 game” confuses the remake with the original.
How Omega Ruby relates to the original games
Nintendo described Omega Ruby and its paired game, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, as fresh takes on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, which originally launched for Game Boy Advance in 2003. Omega Ruby reworks Ruby; Alpha Sapphire reworks Sapphire. Nintendo also highlighted Mega Evolution and Primal Reversion among the remake-era story elements.
Release and platform
Nintendo announced the remakes for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS, with a worldwide launch planned for November 2014. Nintendo UK’s game listing gives 28 November 2014 as Omega Ruby’s UK release date. These are historical release details, not confirmation of current stock or pricing.
