Neither is stronger in every situation. Miraidon and Koraidon have identical base-stat totals and identical base Speed, but their offense is mirrored: Koraidon is built to hit physically, Miraidon to hit with special moves. Which one is the better pick depends on the format, the moves and items you give it, and the team you build around it.
Why the raw stats don’t settle it
Both Pokémon have a base-stat total of 670 and a base Speed of 135, so neither wins on overall bulk or on base speed. The difference lies in how those points are distributed. Koraidon has 135 Attack and 85 Special Attack, while Miraidon has 85 Attack and 135 Special Attack. Their defenses are also split in opposite directions.

Because the totals match, the comparison comes down to which offensive side the Pokémon’s moves will use and which field effect its ability creates.

Typing and what it means in battle
Koraidon is Fighting/Dragon, and Miraidon is Electric/Dragon. They share the Dragon half, so both are weak to Fairy, Ice, and Dragon attacks. The difference is in the other half:
- Koraidon (Fighting/Dragon) is additionally weak to Flying and Psychic, and it has Fighting-type STAB, which is useful against Normal, Rock, Steel, Ice, and Dark targets.
- Miraidon (Electric/Dragon) is additionally weak to Ground, and it has Electric-type STAB, which hits Water and Flying targets especially well.
Typing is a reason to pair them with different partners, not a verdict on which is better. A team that already has Ground coverage may prefer Koraidon; a team with Ground-type attackers may prefer Miraidon for the opposite reason.

Koraidon: Orichalcum Pulse and physical pressure
Koraidon’s ability is Orichalcum Pulse. It summons harsh sunlight and raises Attack while sunlight is active. The official Pokédex entry puts it this way: “The ancient pulse thrumming through the Pokémon also boosts its Attack stat in harsh sunlight.” (The Pokémon Company International, Koraidon Pokédex.)
The ability is conditional. Koraidon’s extra Attack depends on sun being up, so a team built around it usually needs a way to keep sun in play or to give Koraidon a reason to attack without it. Sun can also help other members of the team, which is why Orichalcum Pulse works best in a team plan rather than on its own.

Miraidon: Hadron Engine and special pressure
Miraidon’s ability is Hadron Engine. It summons Electric Terrain and raises Special Attack while Electric Terrain is active. Like Orichalcum Pulse, the boost is conditional: it depends on the terrain staying in place, so the team’s other members need to be able to maintain or exploit that field.
In the official 2024 VGC Masters team record, a Miraidon set uses Hadron Engine together with Electro Drift, Draco Meteor, Dazzling Gleam, Volt Switch, Choice Specs, and a Fairy Tera Type. The set combines a special boost from the terrain with a move choice that spreads damage across Electric, Dragon, and Fairy coverage.

Speed and move order
Both have 135 base Speed, so the species do not differ in speed. Actual move order in a battle still depends on Effort Values, Nature, items, priority moves, and battle effects. Do not assume either Pokémon moves first simply because of its base stat.

Both Pokémon have appeared in official tournament team records, which shows that both are used competitively under the regulations in question. These pages are snapshots, not rankings or head-to-head results:

- 2025 VGC Junior Division (Regulation Set I): Official team records include both Miraidon and Koraidon. The Koraidon set uses Orichalcum Pulse, while the Miraidon sets use Hadron Engine.
Those records do not show win rates, and they do not establish which Pokémon beats the other in a direct matchup. They also reflect regulations from 2024 and 2025. Regulation sets change, and the sets that appear in later events may differ, so check current official records before drawing conclusions about the present metagame.
How to choose between them
- Choose Koraidon if your team has a sun setter or a way to keep sunlight active, and you want a physical attacker with Fighting-type STAB.
- Choose Miraidon if your team can establish Electric Terrain, and you want a special attacker with Electric-type STAB and Dragon coverage.
- Choose based on your opponents rather than the base totals. Physical-heavy opposition favors Koraidon’s Defense, and special-heavy opposition favors Miraidon’s Special Defense. Fairy, Ice, and Dragon threats hit both hard.
In short, pick the one whose ability and offensive side match the plan you are building around it.
