Fortnite does not use one universal launcher. On Windows PC and Mac, the official route is the Epic Games Launcher, which installs the Epic Games Store. On consoles, you get the game through the platform’s own store. On phones and tablets, it comes through an app store or Epic’s mobile store app. Cloud services stream the game without a local download. Epic’s support pages, checked in October 2026, name each of these routes.
PC and Mac: Epic Games Launcher and Epic Games Store
Epic’s download page names the Epic Games Launcher as the way to get Fortnite on a Windows PC or Mac. The Epic Games Store is the storefront the launcher provides. Epic says the store is available globally on PC and Mac, except where applicable law restricts it. Check Epic’s current device requirements before you install, because hardware minimums are published on Epic’s own pages and can change between game updates.
Epic’s official materials do not list Steam as a distribution route for Fortnite. If you see Fortnite offered elsewhere on PC, treat that as a route Epic has not named and verify it before installing.
Consoles: the platform store is the launcher
On consoles, the platform store handles downloads, updates, and account sign-in. Epic’s compatibility support page lists the following console families as supported.

If you already own a supported console, you do not need a separate Epic launcher on that device. The console store is the route Epic points to.
iPhone, iPad, and Android
Mobile is the least uniform route, because the storefront depends on your device and your region. Epic’s mobile setup page is the authority to check against your exact country and device.

iPhone and iPad
- App Store: the primary route where Fortnite is available in the App Store for your region.
- Epic Games Store for iOS: Epic lists this as an option in certain regions. It is not available everywhere.
Epic describes regional qualifications for iOS, so a route available in one country may not appear in another.
Android
- Google Play: a standard route for Android devices.
- Epic Games Store app: an alternative route for Android.
Epic says both Android routes are available worldwide in its mobile instructions. Device requirements still apply, so a phone that does not meet the minimum for the game will not run it from either store.

Cloud gaming: play without installing
Cloud services stream Fortnite to your device rather than installing it locally. Epic names three services in its mobile setup guidance:
- Xbox Cloud Gaming
- GeForce NOW
- Amazon Luna
Each service sets its own access rules. Regional availability, account requirements, and any subscription terms differ by provider, and Epic’s pages do not spell those out for each service. Confirm the provider’s current terms before you rely on it.

Choosing a route
Use this checklist to match the route to your setup:
- Playing on a PC or Mac: install the Epic Games Launcher and use the Epic Games Store.
- Playing on a console you already own: use the console’s platform store.
- Playing on a phone or tablet: start with the App Store on iOS or Google Play on Android, and use the Epic Games Store app only where Epic lists it for your device and region.
- Avoiding a local download: choose one of the three named cloud services and confirm it covers your country.
- Buying hardware for Fortnite: you do not need to. Fortnite runs on multiple console families, PC and Mac, mobile, and cloud, so buy a device only if you want that platform for other reasons.
Compare routes on device compatibility, regional availability, whether the game downloads to your device or streams, and any provider-specific account or subscription requirement.

Fortnite’s launcher question depends on the device you use, so the route is set by the hardware in front of you rather than by any single program.
