In the original Subnautica, the Sea Dragon Leviathan is the strongest creature if you measure strength by size and by the threat it poses to the player. Its in-game databank entry records a scanned specimen at 112 m long, calls it the largest carnivorous species found on planet 4546B, and rates it “Extreme threat – Avoid in all circumstances.” The Reaper Leviathan and the Ghost Leviathan are also among the game’s most dangerous animals, but neither is shown to be bigger than the Sea Dragon.
“Strongest” has no official definition in the game, and no source establishes who would win a hypothetical fight between them. The answer below separates the three measures that actually have evidence behind them.
What “strongest” can mean here
Three different questions get mixed together when players ask this, and they have different answers:
- Stated length: how large the creature is according to its databank entry.
- Danger to the player: how much harm it does to someone on foot, outside a vehicle, and how the game rates it.
- Head-to-head combat: which creature would win a fight. Nothing in the game or in the community reference material sets out a fight result, so any winner is a guess based on the other two measures.
On the first two measures the Sea Dragon leads. On the third, the answer is unsettled.

Sea Dragon Leviathan: largest and most dangerous
The Sea Dragon’s databank entry is the basis for its ranking. It states: “The scanned specimen measured 112m in length.” It also describes the creature as “the largest carnivorous species encountered on 4546B,” and adds that “almost everything is potential prey.” Its threat rating is “Extreme threat – Avoid in all circumstances.”
The entry describes its forearms as tools for propulsion and attack, and says it can consume molten material and spit it at enemies. The Sea Dragon page also says a bite can kill the player instantly, and it describes molten-rock and fireball attacks. These are fictional game descriptions, not claims about real animals.

Reaper Leviathan: smaller, still extreme
The Reaper’s databank entry gives a measured length of 55 m (“The scanned specimen measured 55m long”) and carries the same “Extreme threat – Avoid in all circumstances” rating as the Sea Dragon. The entry describes a streamlined hunter with well-developed senses and powerful mandibles.

The Reaper is the more immediate threat in one specific sense: the Subnautica Wiki page states that its attacks can remove 80% of a player’s health when the player is outside a vehicle. That is a measure of danger in play, not of size. A creature that is less than half the Sea Dragon’s recorded length can still be the greater hazard to a player on foot.
Ghost Leviathan: large, with weaker evidence
The Ghost Leviathan is also described as very large. A Subnautica Wiki search result summarises its length as 107 m and calls it the second-largest aggressive creature in the game. The Ghost’s own page was not opened when this was checked, so that figure should be treated as a community-wiki report rather than a confirmed databank value.

Even taking the figure at face value, it is a comparison of length only. It does not show that the Ghost would beat the Sea Dragon in a fight, and it does not change the Sea Dragon’s position on size.

Could a Sea Dragon beat a Ghost Leviathan?
The available evidence cannot answer this. A fair reading is that the Sea Dragon is the better-supported answer on size and threat, and that any matchup prediction is interpretation. Players who want a verdict on a fight should treat it as an opinion about fictional stats, not as something the game settles.

“Leviathan” is a size classification in the game’s wiki and databank, and it covers both passive and aggressive organisms. A leviathan can be enormous and harmless, and a much smaller creature can be the one that kills you. For that reason, search for the most dangerous animal and search for the largest animal will give different answers, and only the largest-and-most-threatening pairing points clearly to the Sea Dragon.
