He also sells the Dye Vat crafting station for 5 Gold; most other dyes are crafted there, while special animated dyes can be obtained by trading Strange Plants to him in Hardmode.
What dyes does the Dye Trader sell?
His direct dye stock includes Silver Dye and Brown Dye. The Dye Vat is a separate purchase: it is a crafting station, not a dye. The Official Terraria Wiki lists its shop price as 5 Gold. Official Terraria Wiki: Dye Trader

How do you get other dyes?
Craft dyes at a Dye Vat
Many dyes are made using ingredients at a Dye Vat. Buy the station from the Dye Trader, then use it to craft dyes from the materials you have collected. Official Terraria Wiki: Dyes
Trade Strange Plants in Hardmode
In Hardmode, give a Strange Plant to the Dye Trader to receive a random set of six animated dye vials. This is an exchange, not a fixed shop purchase, so the reward is drawn from the available special-dye pool. Official Terraria Wiki: Strange Plant
