There is no single best crop in Stardew Valley. The right choice depends on the season, how many days remain, whether you can afford the seeds, and whether you want steady repeat income or one large payout. The Stardew Valley Wiki’s crop figures give the clearest starting point for raw comparisons. In summer, blueberries offer repeated volume and starfruit offers high value per harvest. In fall, cranberries offer repeat harvests and pumpkins offer a single high-value payout.

What you are comparing

“Best” only means something once you pick a measure. The Wiki tables for these crops report the same core values, which makes them directly comparable:

  • Seed cost: the upfront gold needed to plant.
  • Days to first harvest: how long the crop takes before it produces anything.
  • Regrowth: the days between later harvests, if the crop regrows at all.
  • Harvest count and yield: how many times the crop produces, and how many items each harvest gives.
  • Sale value: the base sell price of the produce.
  • Gold per day: the Wiki’s own calculation, which combines the values above. Its result depends on the seed cost and days you assume, so it only applies to a planting that matches those assumptions.

Summer: blueberries versus starfruit

Measure Blueberry Starfruit
Seed cost 80g 400g (Oasis seed price)
Days to first harvest 13 13
Regrowth 4 days None; single harvest
Harvests Up to 4 1
Yield per harvest 3 berries Not stated in the cited figures
Base sale price Not stated in the cited figures 750g
Gold per day (Wiki calculation) 20.8g Not stated in the cited figures

Blueberries: repeated volume

Blueberries are the summer option built around repeat output. The Wiki lists an 80g seed, a 13-day first harvest, a four-day regrowth, and up to four harvests of three berries each, which gives 20.8g per day in its calculation. That figure assumes you plant early enough in summer to collect all four harvests. Planted late, you get fewer harvests and the per-day figure drops accordingly.

Starfruit: high value, high entry cost

Starfruit grows in 13 days and is a single-harvest crop. Its 400g seed comes from the Oasis, so the upfront cost is roughly five times a blueberry seed. In return, the Wiki lists a 750g base sell price and describes starfruit as having the second-highest crop sell price in the game, behind Sweet Gem Berry. Starfruit makes sense when you can afford the seed and have enough days left for a single harvest to pay back the investment.

Fall: cranberries versus pumpkins

Measure Cranberry Pumpkin
Seed cost 240g 100g
Days to first harvest 7 13
Regrowth 5 days None; single harvest
Harvests Up to 5 1
Yield per harvest 2 cranberries Not stated in the cited figures
Base sale price Not stated in the cited figures 320g
Gold per day (Wiki calculation) Approximately 18.89g Approximately 16.92g

Cranberries: fast start and repeat harvests

Cranberries are the fall crop for players who want output early and often. The 240g seed is expensive, but a seven-day first harvest and five-day regrowth allow up to five harvests of two berries each. In the Wiki’s calculation, this comes to about 18.89g per day, the higher of the two fall figures.

Pumpkins: one large harvest

Pumpkins cost 100g to plant and sell for 320g each at base value. They take 13 days to mature and do not regrow, so the entire return arrives in one harvest. The Wiki calculation gives about 16.92g per day. That is slightly below cranberries on this measure, but the pumpkin needs a smaller upfront purchase and suits a player who prefers to plant once and collect once.

Spring and greenhouse

A secondary guide written for Stardew Valley 1.6.9 summarizes spring picks as strawberries and potatoes, and greenhouse picks as ancient fruit and starfruit. Treat these as broad conclusions rather than a worked ranking. The exact best choice in spring or in the greenhouse shifts with planting date, seed availability, and whether you plan to process the harvest.

Choosing by your goal

  • Gold per day: compare the gold-per-day column, but only after checking that the seed cost and days until harvest match your situation, since those drive the result.
  • Steady cash flow and less replanting: repeat-harvest crops such as blueberries and cranberries avoid buying new seeds after every harvest, though you still need to collect the produce.
  • Highest value per harvest: starfruit and pumpkins pay more per item, but they need enough remaining days and a larger upfront investment.
  • Processing: the raw-crop figures above do not settle which crop is best for a keg, preserves jar, or other processing setup. Check processed values separately before deciding.
  • Season and access: a crop only counts as an option if you can obtain its seeds and plant it with enough time left to harvest.

What these figures do and do not show

  • All values are in-game figures. They are not real-world agricultural data and do not show real-world profit.
  • The Wiki figures cited here are not tied to a stated game version, and they were checked on 8 October 2026. Recheck them after major game updates.
  • These comparisons come from published game reference data and a secondary guide, not from play testing.
