After updating Steam Frame, confirm which SteamOS channel it is using, then check only the settings related to anything that changed. Valve does not say that updates reset every setting or require a fixed post-update checklist. Focus on connectivity, VR behavior, dashboard navigation, or controller and spectator-view options if you are experiencing a problem.
Confirm the SteamOS version and update channel
Open Settings > System > System Update Channel and note whether Steam Frame is on Stable or Beta. Valve describes its Steam Frame Beta updates as containing features still being tested, so joining Beta is not a routine step after an update. Compare the installed version and channel with the release notes for the specific problem you are troubleshooting.
Valve’s Steam Frame product page describes the headset as “a PC, and runs SteamOS powered by a Snapdragon® 8 Series Processor.” Valve’s Steam Frame product page
The latest Steam Frame-specific beta announcement identified here is SteamOS 0.4.4 Beta. Valve’s announcement says the build is for the Steam Frame Beta channel and includes features still being tested. The page text available here does not expose its complete changelog, so do not assume it changed any particular setting; check the announcement itself for details. If streaming or wireless connectivity changed
Check that the headset and wireless adapter or network are connected as expected before changing VR preferences. Valve’s earlier Steam Frame release notes include a fix for other network interfaces disrupting the wireless dongle connection, which makes connectivity worth investigating when streaming is the symptom. That note does not establish that a later update caused a connection problem or changed your network settings. Valve’s Steam Frame release notes
If VR display or spectator behavior changed
Inspect the VR options relevant to the symptom, including display, dominant-eye, and spectator-view settings. Valve’s SteamOS 0.4.1 notes document a dominant-eye selector and an option to disable spectator-view smoothing under VR Settings > Developer. These are examples of device-specific Steam Frame controls, not evidence that 0.4.4 or a later update introduced or altered them. Valve’s SteamOS 0.4.1 Beta notes

If dashboard navigation or controller behavior feels different
Test dashboard focus and navigation with the controller before changing broader system settings. Valve’s 0.4.1 notes mention dashboard focus and gamepad navigation fixes. A change in feel alone does not show that a setting was reset; compare the behavior with the release notes for your installed version before pursuing more disruptive troubleshooting. Restart Steam Frame only if the relevant symptom persists after checking its connection or setting. Valve’s cited material does not prescribe a restart after every update. Consider changing from Beta to Stable only if you want to leave the testing channel; the available announcement confirms Beta features are still being tested but does not promise a particular reliability level.
