The main campaign is the central entry point: choose a clan, expand territory, manage diplomacy and economy, and fight battles in real time. The Complete Edition is not a separate story that replaces the original. Rise of the Samurai
Rise of the Samurai is a standalone campaign rather than a small scenario pack. Its earlier historical setting gives it a different political context and progression from the main game. If you specifically want this campaign, make sure the store page says it is included in the package you are purchasing; the Complete Edition description from SEGA does include it.
Fall of the Samurai
Yes, the Complete Edition includes Fall of the Samurai. It is the later standalone campaign and is often the decisive reason for buying the full package instead of an older base-game listing. Its period and military technology differ substantially from the main campaign, so owning SHOGUN 2 alone is not equivalent to owning the Complete Edition.
What was updated in the new edition?
SEGA lists several technical and usability changes. Lighting, shadows and textures have been refreshed, while the interface is designed to scale at 1440p and 4K. Controls have been modernized, and the game now lists Japanese and Chinese voice acting alongside full-text localization. A 64-bit upgrade is included, and mod support is integrated through Mod.io.

SEGA also advertises 50+ newly playable minor factions. That is the publisher’s 2026 feature claim; it should not be treated as an independently verified faction count. The practical implication is that the updated edition may offer more playable choices than an older installation, but the store listing remains the authority for the exact feature set on your platform.
Steam ownership: do you get the original game and DLC?
According to SEGA’s Steam FAQ, buyers receive “An updated and improved Total War: SHOGUN 2 and all of the associated DLC, including both Rise and Fall of the Samurai.” SEGA’s package description further states that Steam buyers receive the original SHOGUN 2 and its accompanying DLC. The Blood Pack is excluded on Steam because of age ratings.
If you already own the original game on Steam
SEGA says existing owners of the original game receive the original game’s DLC at no extra cost. The FAQ also refers to a limited-time 75% loyalty discount for the Complete Edition. Treat that discount as conditional: it may expire, vary by region or appear only for eligible accounts. Open the product page while signed in and confirm the actual price before deciding whether to upgrade.

If your Steam library already contains the original game and all the DLC you want, the remaining reasons to buy are the updated presentation, control changes, 64-bit build, localization options, Mod.io integration and any newly playable factions included by the edition. Do not pay twice for content your account already owns without checking the store’s ownership-aware price.

The reviewed publisher information does not establish that Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG provide the same legacy-game entitlement as Steam. A listing may use the same name while delivering a different package, key structure or DLC set.
- Open the listing for your exact platform and region.
- Expand the “included” or edition-contents panel rather than relying on the product title alone.
- Confirm that the main SHOGUN 2 campaign, Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai are named.
- Check whether the Blood Pack is excluded, included or unavailable under that store’s age-rating rules.
- Review the platform requirements, refund policy and current price shown at checkout.
If any campaign or DLC is not explicitly listed, treat it as unconfirmed. Do not infer Steam’s ownership rules from a different store.

SEGA lists the edition’s launch for October 13, 2026, at 16:00 BST / 08:00 PDT / 23:00 CST, which is 00:00 JST on October 14. The announced prices are £34.99, €39.99 and $39.99. These are publisher-announced launch prices, not a guarantee of the live regional storefront price. The information was timestamped before the stated launch time, so taxes, regional pricing, launch discounts or later changes may produce a different total.
For a purchase decision, use the price displayed after selecting your country, platform and account. A sale can make an older campaign listing cheaper for someone who wants only one story, while a bundle can be better for anyone who would otherwise buy multiple campaigns and DLC separately.

- Match the edition name. Select “Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition,” not an unrelated base-game or individual-campaign listing.
- Read the campaign list. Confirm the main game, Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai appear in the included-content section.
- Check DLC notes. On Steam, expect the Blood Pack exclusion noted by SEGA. Look for any platform-specific exception elsewhere.
- Check ownership status. If you already own SHOGUN 2, sign in before viewing the price so a store can apply any eligible upgrade or loyalty offer.

Upgrade selectively if you already own SHOGUN 2
Existing Steam owners should first inspect their library and account-specific offer. If you already possess the campaigns and DLC, buy the Complete Edition only when the refreshed visuals, 4K or 1440p interface scaling, modern controls, localization, 64-bit upgrade, Mod.io support or additional playable factions justify the price to you.
