For a reliable beginner order in R.E.P.O., buy one Health upgrade first, then Stamina, then Strength if carrying heavy loot or playing solo is a priority. Treat that as a starting point, not a fixed build: the best next purchase depends on your role, your team and the prices currently shown in the shop.
How to choose your first upgrade
Match the purchase to the problem costing your run the most: surviving damage, running out of stamina, or being unable to carry valuable objects. Check the in-game shop before buying; community guides report that costs rise with purchases, but the sources do not establish an exact price-scaling formula.
- Health: Choose it when surviving damage is the main concern. One Steam Community shop guide reports that each Health purchase adds 20 maximum HP, but that is a guide-listed value, not an official or independently verified current specification. Steam Community shop guide
- Stamina: Consider it when sprinting or acting for longer would help you get loot out safely. The same guide lists +10 maximum stamina and a $2K initial price; neither figure should be assumed to apply to every shop or run. Stamina does not increase carrying capacity. - Strength: Prioritize it when carrying is the bottleneck, especially if you are playing solo. A guide recommends three Strength upgrades for reliably carrying heavy objects alone, but that is guide advice rather than a guaranteed breakpoint. GameFactsGuide shop and upgrades guide
What each upgrade is for
| Upgrade | Consider it when | Tradeoff or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Health | You need more margin for surviving damage. | A Steam Community guide lists +20 maximum HP per purchase; spending on it means less available for other needs. Source |
| Stamina | More sprinting or action capacity would help your route or escape. | A Steam Community guide lists +10 stamina and a $2K initial price; check your shop, and remember it does not improve carrying. Source |
| Strength | You often handle heavy valuables or have no teammate to help carry. | Its value falls when teammates can share the load. Specific upgrade counts for carrying are guide recommendations, not confirmed universal thresholds. Source |
| Sprint Speed or other utility | Movement or escape is the specific problem you need to solve. | A Steam guide warns that high Sprint Speed can make movement less controlled and put carried items at risk; weigh that against the stamina cost. Source |
One Steam Community guide lists Health at $6K, Strength at $5K, Stamina at $2K and Sprint Speed at $6K, alongside upgrade-specific purchase limits. These are reported figures from that guide, not a verified official price list; check the shop in your current game. Shop guide and listed values
Adjust the order for solo or co-op
Playing solo
Strength becomes more valuable when you must move heavy loot without help. Add Health and Stamina according to whether damage or movement is putting your runs at greater risk. The beginner order of Health, then Stamina, then Strength is one guide’s recommendation; it is not a requirement. GameFactsGuide

Playing with a team
Agree on who will carry, who will handle threats, and what the group needs to survive and escape. Teammates can share heavy loads, making Strength less urgent for some players. In a Reddit discussion, players also recommend spreading upgrades so the team is not dependent on one specialist; that is player opinion, and the discussion reflects differing views on Health, Stamina and Strength. When to buy Sprint Speed
Buy movement upgrades when getting away is a bigger problem than controlling your movement or handling cargo. One Steam guide cautions that at level 4 or above, Sprint Speed may cause involuntary jumps and make movement or carrying harder. Treat that level example as specific to that guide, not a universal threshold. Steam Community guide
