The villager that accepts sticks is the Fletcher. A Fletcher’s novice trade exchanges 32 sticks for one emerald, and how often that offer appears depends on your edition: the Minecraft Wiki’s Fletcher trade table lists a 67% chance in Java Edition and 100% in Bedrock Edition.
The stick trade at a glance
The Fletcher is the only profession whose listed novice offer takes sticks. The base exchange is 32 sticks for 1 emerald. Because sticks are cheap to collect from trees and dead bushes, this is one of the easier early-game ways to get emeralds, though the offer is not guaranteed in every Java world.
| Edition | Profession | Novice stick trade | Listed chance for this trade |
|---|---|---|---|
| Java Edition | Fletcher | 32 sticks → 1 emerald | 67% |
| Bedrock Edition | Fletcher | 32 sticks → 1 emerald | 100% |
The 67% and 100% figures are the trade table’s listed probabilities for this offer, as recorded on the Minecraft Wiki’s Fletcher page. They describe how the offer is generated, not a per-villager guarantee you can count on. If a Java Fletcher does not offer the stick trade, the other offers on that villager are still usable, and you can reroll by changing the villager’s profession, as explained below.
How to get a Fletcher
A villager only takes a profession when it can claim a job site block. For a Fletcher, that block is the fletching table.

- The collectible figures make a great toy for video-game players and fans ages 6 years old and up, who will want them all! (Each sold separately, subject to availability.)
- Place an unclaimed fletching table within reach of an unemployed villager.
- Wait for the villager to claim the table. It becomes a Fletcher and shows the matching job-site block.
- Open the trade screen and check the novice offers for the 32-sticks-to-1-emerald exchange.
Fletching tables also generate inside Fletcher houses in villages, so a village may already have a Fletcher waiting at one. If the table is already claimed by another villager, the unemployed villager cannot take that job until the table is free.
Other Fletcher trades to know about
Stick trading is only one of the Fletcher’s offers. The same trade table lists arrow, bow, crossbow, flint, string, feather, and tripwire hook trades at different villager levels. Not every Fletcher will show every offer, and the probabilities differ by edition, so check each villager’s trade list rather than assuming a standard set.

Java Edition trade generation changed in version 26.1
Official Minecraft Feedback release notes for Java Edition 26.1 state that profession trades are now generated using deterministic random sequences, similar to loot drops and barter loot. Under this system, rerolls are determined by the world seed. The same notes do not say that the Fletcher stick trade was changed, so the 32-stick offer and its listed probability should be read as the current table values rather than a version-specific rule.
Because trade generation is tied to the world seed, two Java worlds can offer different trades from the same profession. That is why the 67% figure should be treated as a probability, not a certainty.

Source age and what to trust
Many older guides describe selling sticks to a Fletcher as a reliable early emerald source and recommend converting an unemployed villager into a Fletcher. That advice is still useful, but it predates the current trade table. When an older guide and the current Fletcher trade table disagree, follow the table and check the edition note for your version.
The trade values here come from the Minecraft Wiki’s Fletcher trade reference, and the trade-generation change comes from the official Java Edition 26.1 release notes. Game updates can change either detail, so confirm the numbers in your own game before relying on them for a farming setup.
