1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIn Minecraft Java Edition 26.1, no villager profession sells Name Tags. The Wandering Trader sells them for one Emerald, Master Librarians no longer offer them, and players can also craft them from Paper and a Metal Nugget.
Who sells Name Tags in Java Edition 26.1
The Wandering Trader is the only trader that sells Name Tags in this release. Minecraft’s official overview describes the Wandering Trader as a randomly encountered trader with a varied set of trades, and it is not a villager profession. That distinction matters if you are searching a librarian or another villager’s trade list, because you will not find Name Tags there.
Acquisition routes at a glance
The table below compares the routes that the Java Edition 26.1 release notes establish. Bedrock is listed separately because the official evidence for it is historical.
| Route | Edition and version | Seller or method | Cost or materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wandering Trader | Java Edition 26.1 | Wandering Trader (not a villager profession) | One Emerald per Name Tag |
| Master Librarian | Java Edition 26.1 | No longer offers Name Tags | Not available |
| Crafting | Java Edition 26.1 | Crafting recipe | One Paper and one Metal Nugget (any Metal Nugget type) |
| Bedrock Edition | Current default trade table not established by the sources reviewed here | Not stated | Not stated |
Why the Master Librarian no longer sells them
The Java Edition 26.1 release notes state that Master Librarians no longer offer Name Tags. If you have an older world or a memory of librarian trades from an earlier Java release, that trade will not appear in 26.1. Check the release notes for your version before assuming a trade exists.

Crafting a Name Tag in Java Edition 26.1
Java Edition 26.1 also makes Name Tags craftable. The release notes describe the recipe as one Paper and one Metal Nugget, with any Metal Nugget type accepted. This gives players a route that does not depend on finding the Wandering Trader.
Bedrock Edition: what is and is not established
Bedrock is not covered by the Java 26.1 trade information above, so do not apply the one-Emerald price or the librarian change to Bedrock without checking Bedrock’s own release notes. The most relevant Bedrock source found is the Bedrock 1.20.30 release notes. Those notes describe the Librarian and Wandering Trader changes as experimental and require players to enable the trade experiment. That is historical context. It does not establish the current default Bedrock trade table, so Bedrock sellers and prices are marked “not stated” in the table.

Practical checklist
- Confirm your edition and version. The one-Emerald Wandering Trader price is a Java Edition 26.1 rule.
- Look for a Wandering Trader rather than a librarian, since Master Librarians no longer sell Name Tags in 26.1.
- If you cannot find a Wandering Trader, craft a Name Tag from one Paper and one Metal Nugget.
- For Bedrock, check the current official Bedrock release notes before relying on any trade or price.
Name Tags in Java Edition 26.1 come from the Wandering Trader for one Emerald or from a Paper and Metal Nugget crafting recipe, and no villager profession sells them.
