Choose the amplification that gives your weapon a job you actually need it to do—not the one that sounds like a universal damage upgrade. If you need to damage ARC armor, consider X-Rounds where available; if you are building for ARC weak points, consider Anti-Weak Point and accept its armor-damage penalty. For a different firing pattern, magazine, or handling profile, compare the weapon-specific options and their drawbacks before committing. Some branches exclude alternatives, and the amplification reference says the change cannot be reverted, so check the current in-game tree first.
What Weapon Amplification changes
Weapon Amplification is a branching system for weapon abilities and enhancements, rather than a single flat stat boost. Embark introduced it in the Frozen Trail announcement as a way to change how familiar weapons behave. The official announcement said the feature was rolling out to 15 weapons at launch, with more planned, and that players access it through the Research Workstation in the Raider Outpost. That launch figure describes the initial rollout, not necessarily the current number of amplified weapons.

The practical consequence is that “more damage” is not the only way to judge an upgrade. A branch can change which target a weapon handles well, how it fires, what ammunition or magazine it uses, or how manageable it is to aim and control. A path can improve one use while making another less effective. The name of an option alone is not enough to tell you whether it suits your build; inspect its current tooltip and the branches leading to it.
Embark’s launch examples illustrate how substantial those changes can be: a Burletta could become fully automatic, a Renegade could receive a scope, and a Rattler could combine incendiary bullets with a 64-round drum magazine. Those are examples of weapon-specific behavior changes, not proof that any one of those configurations is best in every encounter.

Choose by target first
Start by asking what you most often need this weapon to do. ARC armor plating and ARC weak points are separate target categories in the documented amplification effects. A choice aimed at one should not be assumed to improve the other.
If you want to attack ARC armor
Consider X-Rounds when the weapon offers that branch. The ARC Raiders Wiki describes X-Rounds as dealing slightly increased damage to Raiders and substantially increased damage to ARC armor plating. Its cited weapon-specific figures are +33% against ARC armor for the Anvil and +25% for the Bettina. These are wiki-reported values, not an independent test, and should be checked against the live tooltip because balance and tooltips can change.
That distinction matters when comparing an armor-focused branch with a general-sounding alternative. The cited effect supports choosing X-Rounds for armor work; it does not establish that X-Rounds is the strongest choice for every target or every weapon. If your main job is fighting Raiders, the armor bonus may not be the deciding factor.

If you want to hit ARC weak points
Consider Anti-Weak Point if it is available on the weapon and your plan is to target weak points. The community mechanics reference describes this path as increasing damage to ARC weak points while reducing damage to ARC armor. Treat that as a specialization with a real opportunity cost, not an all-purpose damage increase. A weapon optimized for a weak point may be a worse tool for breaking armor on the same machine.

Before taking it, decide whether you can reliably direct shots at weak points and whether another weapon or teammate can cover armor damage. If your fights often require switching between armor and weak points with the same gun, the penalty may matter more than the benefit. This is a role-based decision inferred from the documented trade-off, not a claim that one branch wins in all live encounters.
If you mainly fight Raiders
Do not choose an armor-oriented path solely because its damage number looks impressive. The documented X-Rounds description says its Raider damage increase is slight compared with its ARC-armor benefit. Compare that with a firing-mode, magazine, or other weapon-specific option based on the actual fights you expect. The available evidence does not establish a universal Raider-focused best amplification.
Compare the trade-offs, not just the perk names
When a weapon has multiple real paths, compare them across four questions: what you will shoot, what changes in the weapon’s behavior, what handling cost comes with the change, and which alternatives you give up. The most suitable branch is the one whose benefit you can use consistently and whose cost you can live with.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Decision factor | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Target | Raiders, ARC armor plating, or ARC weak points | The documented X-Rounds and Anti-Weak Point paths specialize differently; a benefit against one target is not a promise of better performance against another. |
| Weapon behavior | Fire mode, burst pattern, projectile effect, scope, or magazine | These changes can alter how you use the gun, not just the amount of damage it deals. |
| Handling | Recoil, dispersion, aiming speed, magazine capacity, or projectile speed where the tree lists them | A capacity or damage benefit may be offset by slower aiming or less controllable shots. |
| Commitment | Whether the branch blocks another choice and whether the change can be undone | An incompatible or irreversible choice deserves a check before you spend progression resources. |
| Your actual use | How often you use the weapon and what role it fills in your loadout | A theoretically useful effect has little value if it does not fit how you fight or what your other weapons cover. |
Read the complete tree rather than evaluating a single node in isolation. A desired later upgrade may depend on an earlier choice, and taking one branch may close off another. In particular, the community reference says some choices are exclusive and that the alteration cannot be reverted. Confirm the current weapon tree and description in game before committing, especially if a choice changes your usual role for that weapon.

Weapon examples: what the documented paths suggest
Anvil: armor focus versus the Splitter path
The Anvil’s documented alternatives include X-Rounds and Anvil Splitter as competing paths. The wiki reports a +33% X-Rounds damage increase against ARC armor for the Anvil. Embark’s 2.0 update notes say the old Anvil Splitter mod ceased to be a mod and became an upgrade option for the Amplified Anvil. That change is useful context if you remember the Splitter as a separate attachment: check the current amplification tree rather than relying on an older description of how it is equipped.
The choice is therefore not simply “take the damage upgrade.” Compare the current Splitter option with the armor-targeting effect in the live tree, then decide which behavior you want the Anvil to provide. The available evidence does not establish a controlled ranking between those branches.
Bettina: magazine, semi-auto, and X-Rounds
The guide documents a larger-magazine path, a semi-automatic path, and X-Rounds downstream of Semi-Auto. It reports +25% X-Rounds damage against ARC armor. That dependency means the route matters: do not assume the X-Rounds node can be taken independently of the semi-automatic branch. If you prefer the larger magazine, compare its value to the fire-mode route in the live tree before spending resources.

Embark used the fully automatic Burletta as an example of amplification changing a weapon. The guide describes full-auto and burst-fire as mutually exclusive paths, while sprint shooting is compatible with either. If you want one of those firing patterns, inspect whether it is the branch you want to commit to; do not read “more firing options” as meaning every option can be combined.

Kettle: check exclusions on the tree
The guide lists anti-shield, full-auto, and X-Rounds for the Kettle, and says taking X-Rounds alone blocks the other listed paths. That is a particularly clear case where the weapon tree should drive the decision. Decide whether your priority is the armor-focused effect or one of the other listed behaviors, and verify the exact exclusion in game before choosing. The guide’s description should not replace the current tree if an update has changed it.
Rattler: capacity and ammunition come with handling choices
Embark’s launch example combines incendiary rounds with a 64-round drum. The ARC Raiders Hub guide describes the drum path as adding 40 rounds, but also reports +50% vertical and horizontal recoil, +30% shot dispersion, and aiming down sights 10% slower. Those figures are guide-reported game values, not independently tested here; confirm them in the current build. The same guide says incendiary rounds add burn damage.
This is a clear capacity-versus-control decision. More rounds can mean fewer reload interruptions, but the reported recoil, dispersion, and ADS penalties can make it harder to place shots. Do not treat the drum as a free improvement or assume the launch example proves it is optimal. Consider whether you value sustained fire enough to accept those listed handling costs, and check whether the ammunition effect and magazine path are both available together in your current tree.

Renegade: a scope changes the weapon’s use
Embark’s announcement gives a scope on the Renegade as an example of an amplification. The point is not a documented numerical advantage; it is that the path can change how you approach the weapon. Decide whether the scoped role suits the distances and situations where you actually use it. The announcement does not provide a quantified scope benefit or establish that it is stronger than the other options.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
A practical way to choose before spending resources
- Open the Research Workstation in the Raider Outpost. This is the access point Embark identifies for Weapon Amplification.
- Select the weapon you want to change. Amplification choices are weapon-specific, so do not assume one gun’s paths or effects apply to another.
- Read the full tree and current tooltips. Note the target type, behavior change, handling effects, prerequisites, and any branch exclusions. Pay special attention to changes that cannot be reversed.
- Name the job you want the weapon to perform. For example: damage ARC armor, target weak points, handle Raiders, sustain fire with a larger magazine, or use a different firing pattern.
- Compare the chosen path against the next-best alternative. Write down the benefit you expect and the cost you accept. For the Rattler drum, for example, compare capacity with its listed recoil, dispersion, and ADS costs rather than considering capacity alone.
- Check progression and resource requirements in the current build. The third-party guide describes Research Station and Gunsmith progression, research tasks, resources, and a per-weapon upgrade step. Those detailed costs and material routes are guide-reported and may change, so use the in-game requirements as the authority for what you need now.
- Commit only after verifying the choice. If the interface indicates that another route is excluded or that the alteration cannot be reverted, treat that as a final-build decision, not an experiment you can casually undo.
Unlocking, repairs, and update changes
Embark identifies the Research Workstation in the Raider Outpost as the place to unlock weapon paths. More detailed progression descriptions—Research Station and Gunsmith progression, research tasks, resource costs, and per-weapon steps—come from the ARC Raiders Hub guide. Since those systems and material routes can change, check the current in-game requirements rather than relying on a cost copied from an older guide.
Amplification also affects maintenance. The community wiki says amplified weapons have increased maximum durability, lose durability on death, and require research of the relevant modules for repair. Embark’s 2.0 update notes specifically identify Amplified Fragments as a repair material for amplified weapons; they also say the old Anvil Splitter can be recycled into fragments. These notes make the maintenance system part of the commitment: account for repair and durability requirements when deciding whether to invest in and carry an amplified weapon.
Update notes matter for older equipment knowledge as well as repairs. The Anvil Splitter’s move from a mod to an Amplified Anvil upgrade option is a concrete example of a familiar item changing place in the progression system. If a guide, discussion, or memory conflicts with the current interface, prefer the current in-game description for the build you are playing.
So which amplification should you use?
Use X-Rounds when the weapon offers it and your priority is ARC armor; use Anti-Weak Point when you want to focus weak points and accept reduced armor damage. Choose a fire-mode, magazine, ammunition, scope, or other weapon-specific path when that behavior suits the weapon’s role better than a target-specialized option. On every branch, balance its benefit against handling costs, prerequisites, exclusions, and the fact that the alteration may not be reversible.
No reviewed source establishes one objectively strongest amplification across weapons and live encounters. The sound choice is the one that fits your target, weapon, and loadout—and that you have verified against the current in-game tree.
