They bring tactical leadership, a close emotional connection to Logan, elemental power and dependable frontline strength—while leaving Wolverine’s claws and character at the center. This is a proposed roster, not an official Marvel or PlayStation lineup.
There is an important distinction: Marvel’s Wolverine is already a released, single-player PS5 action-adventure, not a team-based game. Its official character guide names several X-Men and adversaries, but an appearance in the story does not mean a character is playable.
What makes an X-Man a good fit for Wolverine?
Wolverine already supplies close-range damage, stealth and heightened senses. A useful teammate should add something different, deepen Logan’s story or help a player understand how the team functions during a mission. These are editorial criteria inferred from the released game’s Wolverine-centered design, not a published developer roster formula.
- Combat contrast: A distinct role beyond Wolverine’s close-quarters claws.
- Story connection: A relationship, loyalty test or conflict that matters to Logan.
- Readable teamwork: A clear contribution alongside Wolverine during missions.
- Value outside combat: Potential to aid planning, investigation, stealth or character scenes.
The best core roster
| Character | Best contribution | Why the fit works |
|---|---|---|
| Cyclops | Tactical leadership, ranged control and mission planning | Marvel describes Scott Summers as an X-Man, field leader and tactical genius. His optic blasts offer a natural contrast to Wolverine’s close combat. The specific optic-blast description cited here comes from Marvel’s X-Men ’97 RPG profile, not a proposed game mechanic. |
| Jean Grey | Emotional connection, psychic utility and high-stakes story turns | PlayStation’s guide describes Jean using telepathy and telekinesis. Marvel’s X-Men ’97 profile discusses her relationship history with Cyclops and Wolverine. Her appearance in the released game is established; a particular playable role in a team-game concept is not. |
| Storm | Leadership, elemental scale and calm authority | Marvel identifies Storm as an X-Men leader. She can give a team a powerful counterpoint to Logan’s solitary, physical approach; specific mission mechanics would be a design choice. |
| Colossus | Frontline protection, strength and steady teamwork | Marvel describes Colossus as the X-Men’s “primary muscle.” He complements Wolverine’s speed and ferocity without replacing his distinctive role. |
How the roster could shape the story
Use Cyclops to challenge Logan’s instincts
Cyclops can lead operations and plan around Wolverine’s ability to get close to a target. Their contrast creates a useful team tension: Logan may favor acting on instinct, while Scott has to consider the whole mission. The tension should sharpen Wolverine’s choices rather than turn the game into Cyclops’s story.

Make Jean the personal center
Jean’s psychic abilities offer a way to shape investigations or confrontations, while her history with Logan gives the story an intimate stake. Her role can connect what the team discovers to what Logan is willing to face; the exact relationship details depend on the continuity the game chooses.
Let Storm lead by example
Storm brings a form of authority that need not rely on ordering Logan around. Her composed leadership can provide a counterweight to his impulsiveness, while her elemental powers offer room for large-scale action set pieces. Those mechanics would be creative decisions, not established features of an announced team game.

Give Colossus the dependable frontline role
Colossus can hold ground and protect teammates while Logan pursues a target or takes a risk. That pairing makes the team legible in action: one mutant can absorb pressure, while Wolverine remains the fast, ferocious close-range specialist.
Optional characters for a different tone
Mystique for covert missions and mistrust
PlayStation’s guide describes Raven Darkhölme as a polymorph and operative. That makes her a natural option for infiltration, deception and uneasy alliances in a more covert story. The guide’s description does not establish her as a playable ally in the released game.

Sabretooth as a rival, not a reliable teammate
PlayStation’s character guide places Victor Creed in Team X and describes him fighting alongside Wolverine before their animosity grows. He is a direct personal foil for Logan, so he could work as a recurring rival or a temporary partner under pressure. Treating him as a dependable permanent X-Men teammate would weaken that tension.
Which lineup fits the game you want?
| Design goal | Suggested approach |
|---|---|
| Compact team action | Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm and Colossus: a mix of leadership, personal stakes, broad powers and frontline support. |
| Personal, covert story | Keep Cyclops and Storm in supporting leadership roles; center missions on Logan and Jean, with Mystique as a dangerous, shifting alliance. |
| Recurring personal conflict | Use Sabretooth as a rival or conditional temporary ally rather than an uncomplicated permanent teammate. |

How this differs from the released Marvel’s Wolverine
Sony announced that Marvel’s Wolverine launched worldwide exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. PlayStation describes it as a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure and says it is not open world. Its official guide includes Jean Grey, Mystique, Sabretooth and Omega Red among its story characters, but that alone does not establish that any of them are playable. The roster above is a concept for a team-based Wolverine-led game, not a description of the released title’s playable lineup.
Character histories and affiliations can vary between comics, animation and games. In particular, Marvel’s cited Cyclops profile is explicitly for X-Men ’97; its continuity-specific details should not be treated as universal canon.
