“OG Roblox players” usually means people who joined or played Roblox in its early years, but there is no universally accepted year that makes someone an OG. Roblox says the first couple hundred builders included developers, investors, testers, and friends of the founders—and that it is difficult to name the first player because some early accounts are still active.
Who were the first Roblox players?
Roblox was founded in 2004 by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, according to Roblox Support’s company information. The people involved at the beginning were not simply a roster of ordinary players: Roblox describes its first couple hundred builders as a mix of developers, investors, testers, and the founders’ friends.
Roblox Support puts the uncertainty plainly: “It’s hard to say who the first player of Roblox was since some of those early accounts are still active.” That means there is no definitive, officially named first player in the available company account—and no reliable basis for presenting a list of account names as the complete answer.
Baszucki also described himself and Cassel as early participants. In a May 17, 2023 post, he wrote: “In Roblox’s early days, Erik Cassel and I spent parts of every day on Roblox not just building and playing, but reviewing content and paying attention to how people interacted.” This establishes that the founders built and played on the platform; it does not identify the first ordinary player.

What year counts as OG on Roblox?
There is no single cutoff established by Roblox or agreed on by the community. “OG” can refer to several overlapping kinds of early participation:
- Early builders and testers: people involved around the founders during Roblox’s initial development and testing.
- Early public-era players: people who joined once Roblox was available to a broader audience. The exact year people use for this group varies.
- Players with firsthand memories of older Roblox: people remembered as OGs because they experienced earlier features, games, or community culture, even when others disagree about the year their account began.
An archived discussion on r/roblox illustrates the disagreement: participants proposed cutoffs including 2009 and earlier, 2008–2014, and 2010, while some focused more on remembering older features. Those are examples of community opinion, not an official rule.

Is a 2010 Roblox player OG?
That depends on how the speaker is using “OG.” Someone who started in 2010 may count as an OG to a person using a later cutoff or emphasizing memories of older platform culture, while someone else may reserve the label for earlier years. Because the term is informal, the clearest answer is to state the person’s actual join or first-play year rather than treating “OG” as a precise date-based rank.
Who was the first Roblox account?
A first account and a first human player are not necessarily the same thing. Roblox’s official statement does not name a definitive first player, and the consulted sources do not establish a verified comprehensive list of the earliest players or accounts.

Roblox’s technical documentation also distinguishes a User—a persistent Roblox account—from a Player, which is that user’s representation inside a running game’s data model. An in-game Player object is therefore not, by itself, evidence of a person’s real-world identity or when that person first joined the platform.

No. Roblox documents that user IDs can be domain-scoped: an ID may be meaningful within a specific game or app, and the same user may have a different ID in another domain. A bare in-game ID does not establish a universal account-age ranking or prove who owns an account. Assessing an OG claim depends on more than one number:

The definitions of User, Player, and domain-scoped IDs are in the Roblox Creator Hub documentation. A prominent creator today should not be described as one of the first players unless dated, direct evidence supports that claim; present-day fame and early participation are separate facts.
