Gurranq, Beast Clergyman, is the Deathroot-seeking NPC at Bestial Sanctum—and he is connected to the Beast Clergyman you later fight in Crumbling Farum Azula, who becomes Maliketh, the Black Blade. Give Gurranq Deathroots to earn a sequence of bestial rewards; completing that exchange before the Farum Azula encounter also changes Maliketh’s introductory dialogue, according to Eldenpedia’s community-maintained references.
Where to find Gurranq
Gurranq is located at Bestial Sanctum in Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow. He asks for Deathroot, a quest item that can be exchanged with him for rewards. See the Gurranq reference and Bestial Sanctum reference for the documented location and quest details.
What Gurranq gives you for Deathroot
The reward sequence documented for the exchange mixes a utility item, incantations, a weapon, and an upgrade material. The early reward listing includes the Clawmark Seal and Beast Eye; the ninth Deathroot reward is an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.

What happens after the fourth Deathroot
Eldenpedia’s quest page describes an interruption after four Deathroots: on returning to the area or reloading it, Gurranq attacks. The documented resolution is to reduce his health by 30%, which subdues him; speak to him and reload the area to restore his original position. These are community-reference quest instructions, not firsthand gameplay verification. See the Gurranq quest reference.
How Gurranq connects to Maliketh
In Crumbling Farum Azula, the Beast Clergyman encounter transitions into the fight against Maliketh, the Black Blade. Eldenpedia reports that completing Gurranq’s Deathroot quest beforehand changes Maliketh’s introductory dialogue. The encounter can be fought independently of finishing the Bestial Sanctum exchange, so the quest is not documented as a requirement to reach or fight Maliketh. See the Maliketh reference.
