John Megabonk is a public handle used by the creator of Megabonk, who is publicly known as Vedinad. The available reporting does not verify the creator’s legal name. Fans have speculated that Vedinad is Dani, the developer behind Muck, Crab Game and Karlson, but neither identity has been confirmed as the other.
Who created Megabonk?
Megabonk is associated publicly with the developer name Vedinad. Game*Spark identified Vedinad as a Norwegian creator in a September 2025 interview and described the game as a 3D roguelike survival action title in the style of Vampire Survivors. Game*Spark’s September 21, 2025 report

Why did Megabonk leave The Game Awards’ debut category?
In November 2025, Vedinad said that Megabonk was not their first game: “I’ve made games in the past under different studio names, so Megabonk is not my debut game.” Vedinad asked to withdraw the nomination for Best Debut Indie Game, saying it did not feel right to remain in the category.

Geoff Keighley confirmed the removal, explaining that the developer had clarified they were an established solo developer who had presented themselves as a new creator under the name Vedinad. Vedinad did not name the earlier games or studio names in the statement. The disclosure establishes that the developer had made games before; it does not establish which projects they were.

Is Vedinad actually Dani?
That is a fan theory, not a confirmed identity reveal. Dani is known for games including Muck, Crab Game and Karlson. Coverage of the theory points to several circumstantial clues:
- “Vedinad” is “danidev” spelled backward.
- Fans have noted similarities in how the creators present their games and videos.
- Reports have associated both creators with Norway.
- A report said Vedinad’s Steam library showed the unreleased project Karlson; that could suggest a connection or access, but does not establish who owns or controls the account.
These clues do not independently prove that the two public identities belong to the same person. The theory also has complications: Vedinad’s YouTube description reportedly credits Dani as an inspiration, and one report said their voices sounded different.
