Which Avowed companion should you choose?
Avowed has four named companions: Kai, Giatta, Marius, and Yatzli. Obsidian’s official game site introduces the cast, while developers describe companions as traveling allies who provide combat help as well as character and regional context.

Is Giatta the best companion for healing?
Giatta is the most directly supported choice if you want a companion who helps keep the party going: developers specifically point to her ability to heal. That makes her a sensible role-based pick when support matters to your approach. The official developer descriptions do not establish a full ranking of healing output or compare her performance across builds and difficulty settings.
Is Kai the best companion for a frontline ally?
Kai is the clearest choice if you want an ally who can draw enemy attention. Paramo calls him “kind of your tank,” describing a role that can take some pressure off the player. Bringing Kai alongside Giatta is a reasonable role-complement idea—one can attract aggression while the other provides healing—but it is an inference from their described roles, not an official best-pairing recommendation or a tested universal strategy.

Who is the best companion for story?
There is no evidence-backed story winner. Patel describes companions as traveling partners with links to different regions, giving them opportunities to add local perspective and character commentary. Choose based on whose background and reactions you most want to hear; Kai’s connection to the Shatter Scarp illustrates how a companion’s regional history can add context.
How do you get more from your companions?
Make time for conversations at Party Camp. Patel calls it both a narrative and upgrade hub, and says it is where players can learn about companions and hear their banter. Companions can also sometimes help overcome environmental barriers, according to her Xbox Wire interview. Their role is therefore broader than combat alone.

The available official developer commentary supports broad role guidance: Giatta for healing and support, and Kai for drawing enemy aggression. It does not establish an objective overall winner, a numerical companion ranking, or a best choice for every class, difficulty, and encounter.
