There is no evidence-backed “best wife” for every Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord campaign. The right choice depends on what you want your spouse to do: fight alongside you, lead a party, fill a clan role, govern a settlement, or support a dynastic or political plan. Compare eligible candidates’ profiles in your current save rather than relying on a fixed online ranking.
How to choose the best wife for your play style
Start with the job you expect your spouse to perform. A candidate’s strengths in one role do not automatically make them the strongest choice for another.

Traits can matter beyond role-play: the companion guide notes that trait conflicts may affect relationships with companions. Consider how a candidate’s traits fit your preferred actions and the people you keep in your party.
Check eligibility and profile in your current save
Use the in-game Encyclopedia to find possible candidates and review their profile, family, and marriage status. The Heroes section is a practical starting point, according to PC Gamer’s marriage and children guide. Candidate location and availability can change during a campaign, so confirm the details in the save where you plan to marry.
- Open the in-game Encyclopedia and browse the Heroes entries for potential candidates.
- Check each candidate’s current profile, family, and marriage status.
- Compare the skills and traits that matter for your intended role; for a governor, include culture in your assessment.
- Recheck the candidate’s status and location before pursuing them, since campaign circumstances can change.
What to expect from the marriage process
Guides describe marriage as a sequence rather than a single selection: meet the candidate, pursue courtship and conversation checks, make a proposal, and obtain approval from the candidate’s clan leader. PC Gamer’s guide was published April 9, 2020, so treat its detailed mechanics as potentially outdated. A newer guide, Game Rack’s marriage, children, and succession guide, is dated September 13, 2026 and says it covers v1.4.8; it discusses v1.5.0 beta separately. Its steps are version-specific, not a guarantee of how every current build behaves.
Follow the success chances and instructions shown by your game’s current interface. Exact dialogue, timing, eligibility edge cases, and costs can vary with version and campaign state; the sources do not establish universal values for them.
Why fixed “best wife” rankings are unreliable
The available sources do not establish a current, authoritative named winner or a comparable ranking across saves. A useful ranking would need to show the character data it uses, the game version, and what “best” means—combat, party leadership, clan duties, governance, or another goal. Without that information, a list of names can hide differences in role, availability, and version.

The BannerlordDB encyclopedia describes its data as read from game files, but that does not by itself establish a best-spouse ranking. For a decision in your campaign, the in-game profile is the relevant check.
