Leon Kennedy’s face in the Resident Evil 2 remake is based on Romanian model Eduard Badaluta, according to a June 2018 report from REVIL, a fan publication. Leon’s voice and motion capture were performed by Nick Apostolides. These are separate contributions by two different people, and the face credit comes from secondary reporting rather than an official Capcom credit.

Who did what in the Resident Evil 2 remake

Three contributions are often lumped together under the word “actor.” They belong to two people:

Contribution Person Source and status
Visual likeness (face model) Eduard Badaluta Named in a June 2018 REVIL report. Fan-publication reporting, not a direct Capcom quotation or official credit.
Voice Nick Apostolides Stated by Apostolides in a 2019 interview with Alternative Magazine Online.
Motion capture and performance Nick Apostolides Stated by Apostolides in the same 2019 interview and listed in his official biography.

The face: Eduard Badaluta

The REVIL report identifies Badaluta as the model selected to give Leon his appearance. It also describes Capcom’s use of photogrammetry, a technique that builds 3D models from photographs of real people and objects, to bring real-world scans into the game. That context explains how a real face could be carried into a digital character, but the report is the only source for Badaluta’s role that this article relies on, so it should be presented as reported rather than confirmed by the studio.

The official production material does not fill that gap. PlayStation Blog’s 2018 production report covers how Capcom rebuilt the remake’s characters and scanned Leon’s costume, but it does not name Badaluta or any other face model. An article about scanning is not evidence for a specific face credit.

Resident Evil 4 - PS5
  • Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
  • Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
  • Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
  • Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

The voice and motion capture: Nick Apostolides

Apostolides is the performer behind Leon’s voice and movement in the remake. In his 2019 interview he says he auditioned for the role and describes working on the voice and motion-capture sessions in Los Angeles between early 2016 and early 2018. Those dates describe his own account of the production period and are not a Capcom schedule.

What Apostolides said about his likeness

The clearest first-person statement comes from the 2019 interview. The interviewer asked whether Leon’s likeness, which belonged to someone else, was chosen to stay faithful to the character’s original look and design. Apostolides answered:

  • Reimagined Story – Resident Evil 4 dials up the original release’s key feelings of loneliness and the fear of enemies blinded by zealotry, while providing more nuanced depictions of the character motivations and relationships that defined the 2005 survival horror icon.

“I don’t know much about this decision, but Leon’s look has been received well by fans so it works. I can tell you that they incorporated a few of my facial features and quirks which I think is hilariously awesome – Leon’s brow furrows EXACTLY as mine does and they even added a few facial moles on his face… something I had joked about with the producer!”

His answer confirms that some of his own features and mannerisms were built into Leon’s appearance. It does not say that he was the model for the whole face, and it fits the Badaluta reporting rather than contradicting it. Both statements can be true at once: a model supplied the base likeness, and the performer’s expressions and details were carried into the character.

Resident Evil Requiem (2026)

Apostolides’s official biography lists Leon among his roles in the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes, the animated series Infinite Darkness, and Resident Evil Requiem, which he lists for 2026. A PC Gamer interview from 2026 also discusses his performance and how he interprets the character. Neither source, as summarized here, spells out the exact voice and capture arrangements for Requiem, so those details are not stated.

A 2026 Multiplayer.it report names Badaluta as the basis for Leon’s face in Requiem. That report is secondary, and no official credit confirming it was located for this article. The attribution is best read as reported.

Why the names get mixed up

Searches for Leon’s “actor” or “face” often return different credits as if they were one. The most common confusions are:

  • Treating Badaluta as the voice actor. He is credited for appearance only.
  • Treating Apostolides as the sole source of Leon’s rendered face. His own account describes features he contributed, not the whole model.
  • Applying the remake’s face credit to Requiem without checking. The two games are linked by the same character, but the 2026 face attribution rests on separate, secondary reporting.

When citing either person, name the contribution: appearance, voice, or motion capture, and the game it refers to.
