The face reference most often reported for Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 2 (2019) is Romanian model Eduard Badaluta. That attribution comes from secondary reporting, not from an official Capcom or PlayStation credit, so it should be presented as a reported identification rather than confirmed fact. The game’s credits list Nick Apostolides as Leon, but that is a performer credit and does not establish whose facial likeness was used.
What is reported about the face model
Secondary coverage names Eduard Badaluta as the face reference for the remake’s Leon. The clearest examples are a REVIL report on the new Leon and Claire face models and the Wikipedia article on the 2019 game, which summarizes that same attribution. Neither is first-party material, and the official Capcom and PlayStation material available for this article does not repeat the claim. The Badaluta link therefore rests on those secondary reports.
What the official material covers, and what it leaves out
- PlayStation.Blog, 2018: The platform holder’s Comic-Con development coverage of the Resident Evil 2 Collector’s Edition describes Leon’s updated, younger rookie look. It explains that the team built a physical version of his costume and used photogrammetry to scan the clothing into the game, with details and changes added afterward. This is a description of clothing capture. It does not name a face model.
- Capcom Resident Evil Portal, “Leon S. Kennedy (RE2) — Extra Files”: This page gives in-universe background, including Leon’s age during the events of Resident Evil 2 and what the S in his name stands for. It does not include real-world modeling credits.
Face model, performer, and costume scan are separate roles
Three different kinds of credit are often blended together in discussions of Leon’s appearance. The table keeps them apart.
| Role | What it refers to | Named person or detail | Source and status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reported face reference | Facial likeness for Leon in Resident Evil 2 (2019) | Eduard Badaluta | Secondary reporting (REVIL; Wikipedia summary). Not confirmed in official Capcom or PlayStation material. |
| Credited performer | Actor credited as Leon S. Kennedy in the game’s credits | Nick Apostolides | MobyGames PS4 credits listing. Does not establish facial modeling or any specific motion-capture role. |
| Costume capture | Physical costume scanned into the game with photogrammetry | Not stated (no individual is named) | PlayStation.Blog, 2018. Concerns clothing, not facial capture. |
Which Leon appearances the answer covers
The Badaluta attribution is tied to the 2019 remake. Leon has also appeared in other games and in films, and reference models can differ from one production to the next. Nothing in the material reviewed shows that the same face reference was used across those appearances.

A separate claim surfaced in search results says Jamisin Matthews supplied facial references for earlier CGI-film-era material. The first-party sources reviewed do not establish this, and they do not document a complete appearance-by-appearance history of Leon’s likeness. Treat that claim as unconfirmed.

How to cite this correctly
- Say “reportedly” or “according to secondary reporting” when naming Eduard Badaluta.
- Credit Nick Apostolides as the performer of Leon in the PS4 credits, not as the face model.
- Limit any face-model statement to the 2019 remake unless a specific source covers another appearance.
