Nintendo lists her in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe roster. The phrase “Toad girl” is loose, though, and it can also point to female Toad characters in general or to an unnamed girl in a 1908 children’s book. The rest of this article explains how to tell which one you mean.
Toadette: the likely answer for Mario
Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe roster includes Toadette and places her in the Light weight class. The French product page lists the roster and class information, at Nintendo’s French Mario Kart 8 Deluxe page. Nintendo’s UK page identifies the game as a Nintendo Switch title, at Nintendo’s UK Mario Kart 8 Deluxe page.
Those listings confirm that Toadette is a playable character in that game. They do not cover her first appearance, a detailed biography, or an origin story, so this article does not make claims about those.
Other readings of “Toad girl”
Because the phrase names a type rather than a specific character, two other readings are common enough to rule out before you settle on Toadette.

| Reading | What it refers to | What the sources establish |
|---|---|---|
| Toadette (Mario) | A named female Toad character in the Mario franchise | Listed in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe roster, Light class, on Nintendo’s pages linked above. Debut and backstory not established by these sources. |
| Female Toad characters in general | Any female character of the Toad species, or artwork of one | Super Mario Wiki image entries show that generic female Toad renderings exist. This supports the existence of such art, not a specific name. |
| The unnamed girl in The Wind in the Willows | A child character in Kenneth Grahame’s novel who helps Toad escape by dressing as a washerwoman | Project Gutenberg’s text of the novel describes her as an unnamed girl who assists Toad. It gives no name or background for her, available in the Project Gutenberg edition of The Wind in the Willows. |
Dates to keep straight
Nintendo’s UK listing for Mario Kart: Double Dash!! gives a release date of 14 November 2003, at Nintendo’s UK Mario Kart: Double Dash!! page. That is the game’s release date. It does not establish when Toadette first appeared, so do not read it as her debut.

- If the question comes from a Mario game, a Mario Kart context, or a character roster, Toadette is the answer to start with.
- If the question comes from an image search or fan art, expect generic female Toad renderings rather than a single named character.
- If the question comes from a classic children’s book, the answer is the unnamed girl in The Wind in the Willows, who has no name in the text.
- If you can say which game, book or search led you to the phrase, the answer can be narrowed further.
Nintendo’s roster pages are product information rather than a published statement about the character’s history. For anything beyond roster presence, check a dedicated Mario reference rather than the store listing.
