There is no confirmed universal winner. Minecraft’s official guides describe how each boss attacks, but they do not report a direct Wither-versus-Ender-Dragon fight. Any verdict depends on the game edition, arena and setup, so a confident winner would be an inference—not an established result.
What the official sources establish
The Wither fires skulls at nearby living targets and destroys blocks it contacts. The Ender Dragon attacks players with fireballs and breath attacks, and End Crystals heal it when it is near them. These mechanics suggest factors that could shape a matchup, but they are not a controlled comparison.
The official guides do not provide a shared health comparison or a direct combat test. They therefore cannot establish which boss wins, how long a fight would last, or whether the result carries across editions and arenas.
What could affect a hypothetical fight?
Attacks and movement
The Wither’s skull attacks and the dragon’s fireballs and breath give them different attack patterns. The available official descriptions explain these abilities in player encounters; they do not say how reliably one boss would hit the other.

Terrain and arena
Because the Wither destroys blocks it contacts, the arena could change during a fight. The official descriptions do not specify how that would affect a dragon matchup, so the result cannot be inferred from the terrain mechanic alone.
End Crystal healing
End Crystals heal the Ender Dragon when it is near them. Whether crystals are present—and how the arena is configured—would matter to a hypothetical matchup, but no official comparison tests those conditions.

Edition and setup
The official articles do not settle edition-specific behavior or prescribe a shared arena and starting conditions. Without those controls, claims that either boss always wins overstate what the sources establish.
Why the two boss fights have different purposes
The Wither is deliberately summoned using four soul sand and three wither skeleton skulls. Minecraft’s official Wither article describes it as the only way to obtain a Nether Star, which is used to craft a beacon. The Ender Dragon guide, by contrast, is written for players preparing for the dragon encounter and recommends ranged weapons, strong armor and healing items. Those recommendations are for fighting the dragon as a player, not evidence about a Wither-versus-Dragon battle.

In a 2017 Minecraft.net article, developer Jens Bergensten described the Wither’s design inspiration: “I wanted it to be some kind of boss fight and I was inspired by Terraria: in that game you always initiate the boss fights yourself.”

Neither boss has a source-backed win over the other. The defensible answer is that a result would depend on edition, arena and setup; Minecraft’s official guides do not report a direct fight. Treat claims of a definitive winner as predictions unless they specify and demonstrate the conditions.
