The game behind T3’s headline is ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE. Writer Max Freeman-Mills says his regret is about playing on PC rather than joining friends on his usual multiplayer platform, PS5 Pro—not about a measured PS5 Pro performance advantage. His early impressions are enthusiastic, but they are not a review or a comparison of the console and PC versions.
What the PS5 Pro headline actually means
In a 5 October 2026 T3 feature, Freeman-Mills describes playing a review-code PC version of ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE for several days, reaching about ten campaign missions. He normally plays multiplayer on PS5 Pro with friends, which is why choosing PC leaves him wondering whether he missed the better social experience. The feature does not test the game on PS5 Pro or show that the console performs better.

Bandai Namco lists the game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, with single-player and multiplayer modes. The publisher gave 2 October 2026 as the release date; its launch announcement says Deluxe Edition early access began 29 September, ahead of the worldwide launch on 2 October. What the early PC impressions say
A campaign built around missions and story
Freeman-Mills describes a flight-only game that moves between mission briefings, aerial combat and story scenes. In the early campaign, the player takes on the “Wings of Theve” identity after an ace is lost; the wider conflict involves efforts to reclaim territory after an invasion. The missions he describes include escort work, attacks on ground targets and dogfights. These are impressions from roughly the first ten missions, not a full account of the campaign.

Two approaches to flight controls
The feature describes a traditional control scheme based on pitch and roll, alongside a more forgiving option that reduces maneuverability. That gives players a choice between greater freedom to maneuver and an easier approach to keeping the aircraft under control. The available evidence does not establish that a flight stick is required or confirm compatibility with any particular accessory.
Visuals and performance on one PC
Freeman-Mills praises the clouds, weather, aircraft detail and moving aircraft components. On the loaned PC he used, equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, he reports that 1440p Ultra ran at a steady 60 fps without issues in his experience. He says 4K put more strain on that system and needed frame generation to smooth things out. Those figures describe one PC and its settings; they are not a general benchmark and say nothing about PS5 Pro performance.

Should you choose PC or PS5?
For online sessions, start with where your friends play. Cross-play is described in Bandai Namco’s launch announcement, but the available information does not specify its exact platform combinations or how parties and matchmaking work. Check the game’s current in-game or official guidance if those details affect your group.
If you mainly want the campaign, Freeman-Mills’s first several missions offer a positive, limited impression of its aerial scenarios, story framing and visuals. They do not establish how the full campaign holds up. If multiplayer is your priority, the social reason for his PS5 Pro regret may matter more than an unverified graphics comparison: choose the platform and setup that best fits your group, while checking cross-play details for your intended platforms.

The publisher lists Standard and Deluxe editions, as well as a Joker Flight Pack that includes the Deluxe Edition, an artbook and two soundtrack LPs. Those are edition details, not evidence of current stock or pricing; check the official page or your preferred retailer for what is available in your region.
