A used PlayStation Now listing is not automatically comparable to a new PlayStation Plus subscription. Sony discontinued PlayStation Now as a standalone service when it transitioned into the new PlayStation Plus offering in 2022. That history explains why an old listing may still use the PlayStation Now name; it does not explain its asking price or prove that a code or account can still be redeemed.
What changed to PlayStation Now?
On March 29, 2022, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that PlayStation Now would transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and would no longer be available as a standalone service once the new service launched. The announcement described three plans—Essential, Extra, and Premium—and said Premium included streaming benefits in markets where cloud streaming was available. Sony’s announcement is the primary source for that transition.

Sony also said existing PlayStation Now customers would move to PlayStation Plus Premium without an increase to their then-current subscription fees at launch. This was a statement about the launch transition for existing customers, not a guarantee about present-day subscription rates, resale prices, or third-party listings.
Why might a used listing look more expensive?
The available official announcement does not document resale prices or explain any particular price gap. Without the actual listings and their terms, it is not possible to say whether a higher asking price reflects seller markup, a different subscription duration, a different entitlement, or some other factor. Those are possibilities to investigate, not established explanations.

The name alone is not enough to establish what a seller is offering. A listing described as “PlayStation Now” could refer to a code, an account, or something else; Sony’s transition announcement does not establish whether any individual offer is valid, redeemable, or equivalent to a new subscription.
How to check whether two prices are comparable
Before treating a used listing as a bargain—or an overcharge—compare both offers on the same terms:

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
- Region and currency: Make sure both offers apply to the same market.
- Duration: Compare the same subscription period rather than a short term against a year.
- Entitlement: Check what plan, benefits, and access the offer actually includes.
- Redemption: Confirm what is being sold and whether it can be redeemed for your account and region. The 2022 announcement does not verify any seller’s code or account.
- Observation date: Record when each price was checked; an old listing and a current subscription price may not reflect the same market conditions.
What Sony’s 2022 launch prices do—and do not—show
Sony published the following PlayStation Plus Premium launch prices in 2022 for selected markets. They are historical figures, not current prices, and Sony noted that local pricing could vary.

| Market | Monthly | Quarterly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | US$17.99 | US$49.99 | US$119.99 |
| United Kingdom | £13.49 | £39.99 | £99.99 |
| Euro area | €16.99 | €49.99 | €119.99 |
| Japan | ¥1,550 | ¥4,300 | ¥10,250 |
These launch figures can provide historical context, but they cannot settle whether a particular used listing is overpriced. They describe PlayStation Plus Premium at launch, not the present cost of a new subscription and not the value or redeemability of a legacy PlayStation Now offer.

What to conclude about a specific listing
A listing can appear to cost more than “new” because the two offers may not be comparable, but the service’s history alone cannot establish the reason. Treat any explanation of a specific price difference as unverified until you can compare the region, term, included benefits, seller’s precise entitlement, redemption eligibility, and date of both prices.
