A used PS5 Pro can be listed above the price of a new one because resale offers and Sony’s suggested price are different things: retailers set their own pre-owned prices, while marketplace sellers choose asking prices that may never result in a sale. In the US, Sony’s suggested price was reported at $899.99 after a March 2026 increase, while October reports put some GameStop pre-owned units at about $1,400. Those are dated examples, not proof that used PS5 Pros generally sell for more than new ones.
What the reported prices do—and do not—show
Associated Press reported that Sony raised the PS5 Pro’s US suggested price by $150 in March 2026, from $749.99 to $899.99. That $899.99 figure is a manufacturer’s suggested-price benchmark, not a guarantee that every retailer currently charges it or has stock. Associated Press reported the increase.

In October 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported a GameStop price of $1,399.99 for a refurbished or pre-owned PS5 Pro. The same report described new consoles as out of stock at several retailers at that time. That was a dated report of one retailer’s pricing and stock, not a market-wide resale benchmark.

Its account relied on a purported internal employee email shared online, rather than a public statement from a named company executive or an official pricing policy. The reported memo said, “the preowned console will have a higher price than the new console – this is intentional.” Game Developer explains its sourcing and the reported prices.

These examples establish that pre-owned listings above the suggested new price have been reported; they do not establish what a typical buyer pays. Retail prices, stock, and resale offers can change quickly, and the figures here are in US dollars. Prices and taxes may differ in other countries.
Why a used listing might be priced above retail
New stock may be hard to find
When a new console is difficult to obtain, a seller may test a higher price for buyers who value getting one immediately. The October 2026 stock reports make scarcity a plausible part of the context for those offers, but they are only snapshots from that time. They do not prove that scarcity caused every high listing or that new stock remains limited.

Asking prices are not completed-sale prices
A marketplace seller can ask any price; that number says only what the seller hopes to receive. A retailer’s pre-owned sticker price is likewise a separate offer, not Sony’s suggested price and not evidence that buyers are paying that amount. A completed sale is stronger evidence of what a buyer actually paid, though one sale still does not define the usual value.

A retailer may account for its replacement costs, available inventory, and its estimate of buyer demand when setting a pre-owned price. Individual sellers make their own decisions, and their offers may attract no buyer. A premium can therefore appear in listings without representing a broadly established resale value.

How to estimate a PS5 Pro’s resale value
- Find completed sales, not just active offers. Use sold or completed records for evidence of transactions. PriceCharting displays individual dated eBay records, including examples both below and above the reported new suggested price; it is a collection of individual records, not an audited market average. Review the dated PS5 Pro records.
- Match the exact configuration. Compare the same model and region, condition, disc-drive setup, and included controller and cables. A console bundled with a disc add-on, extra controller, or other item is not a like-for-like comparison with a bare console.
- Account for buyer protection and total cost. Consider seller reputation, return terms, any warranty, shipping, and tax. A lower sticker price may not be the better offer if it comes with less protection or higher extra costs.
- Use more than one comparable sale. A single high transaction may reflect a bundle or unusual circumstances. Several recent, genuinely comparable completed sales give a more useful indication, but the available examples do not provide a complete national transaction dataset.
For example, an eBay PS5 Pro bundle listing displayed a sold price of US $1,100, with a sale date of July 28 shown on the page. Because it is a bundle, it cannot establish the value of a console alone. See the listed bundle and sale details.

| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Total out-the-door cost | Include shipping and tax rather than comparing sticker prices alone. |
| Condition and included items | Confirm the console’s condition, controller and cables, and whether a disc add-on or other accessories are included. |
| Seller protection | Check the seller’s reputation, return terms, and any warranty before treating two offers as equivalent. |
| Price type | Distinguish an asking price from a completed sale, and distinguish a retailer’s pre-owned offer from Sony’s suggested price. |
| Current new-console availability | Stock reports are time-specific. Check current retailer inventory rather than assuming a past shortage continues. |
The right comparison is not simply “used versus MSRP.” It is the actual cost and protection for a specific used configuration versus a new unit you can buy now, judged against recent completed sales of genuinely comparable systems.
