If AMD FSR 4—now called AMD FSR Upscaling on AMD’s current support page—is missing from your handheld, the likely reason is that the feature depends on both supported graphics hardware and the game’s implementation. AMD’s current public support information lists Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 graphics cards, with RX 6000 graphics support planned for 2027; it does not confirm support for every AMD-powered handheld. A recent report describes broader handheld and APU support as planned before the end of 2026, but that is not confirmation for a particular device today.
Why FSR 4 may not appear on your handheld
There are two main compatibility checks: whether the handheld’s exact GPU is supported, and whether the game provides a compatible way to use the ML-based upscaler. An AMD processor logo or the presence of older FSR options does not establish that both conditions are met.

The graphics hardware may not be on AMD’s supported list
AMD’s current FSR technologies page says, “AMD FSR Upscaling with ML Technologies is available on AMD Radeon™ RX 7000 Series and RX 9000 Series graphics cards, with support for RX 6000 Series Graphics launching in 2027.” That statement names graphics-card families, not every integrated GPU or handheld APU. Check your exact device and GPU rather than inferring support from AMD branding.

The game may not expose a compatible FSR option
FSR 4 can appear in a game’s own graphics menu, sometimes under the older “FSR 4” label. In some games with FSR 3.1 or newer integration, AMD Software can also replace the game’s upscaler with its ML-based upscaler, subject to hardware and game support. A missing menu entry may therefore reflect the game’s implementation or the activation route, not just the handheld.
How to check whether it should be available
- Identify the exact handheld and GPU. Use the device’s model specifications to find the graphics hardware and architecture. AMD processor branding alone is not a compatibility guarantee.
- Check the game’s support and menu. Look for AMD FSR Upscaling or the older FSR 4 label in the game’s graphics settings. AMD’s FSR technologies page describes native game integration and the AMD Software route for some supported games.
- Check AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. With the game closed, open Gaming > Graphics and look for the “AMD FSR Upscaling” and “AMD FSR Frame Generation” options where applicable. AMD’s setup guidance requires the game not to be running when configuring global graphics options.
- For the software upgrade route, check the game integration. AMD documents FSR 3.1 or later integration for the upscaler upgrade route; its frame-generation upgrade path calls for FSR 3.1.4 or later. The game’s own FSR setting may also need to be enabled.
- Recheck current compatibility information. If the option remains absent, compare the exact GPU and game against AMD’s latest support details. A driver update cannot be assumed to add official support for hardware AMD has not listed.
What reported handheld support means
On October 7, 2026, TechSpot reported that AMD senior vice president Jack Huynh told South Korean media official FSR support would reach a range of APUs, gaming laptops, and handheld gaming PCs before the end of 2026. Hardware Busters’ October 8, 2026 coverage characterized the reported plan as involving a lighter model for some existing chips and a new generation of APUs, while noting that exact supported chips and feature details were not available.

These reports describe a roadmap, not a device-by-device confirmation that FSR 4 is available on your handheld now. The material available here does not establish a complete model list. Until AMD identifies a specific device or GPU as supported and the feature is available in the relevant game or software path, treat compatibility as unconfirmed.

Use these checks to judge a specific device and game
- Hardware: What exact GPU or APU does the handheld use, and is that hardware currently listed or explicitly confirmed for future support?
- Game: Does the title integrate the ML-based upscaler directly, or meet the documented FSR 3.1-or-later requirement for the AMD Software upscaler route?
- Availability: Is support shipping for that combination, or only described in roadmap reporting?
