Check which symptom you have first; each one points to a different fix.
First, identify what “cutting off” looks like
- A warning appears and the message does not send: check for a message-length warning.
- Words become hashtags or different wording: this is likely filtering, not text disappearing from the end.
- The message appears translated: compare it with the untranslated original.
- The message sends, but its ending is not visible: check whether the issue is limited to a particular chat display or experience.
- You cannot send or receive chat at all: review communication access and account settings.
Roblox documents these as distinct behaviors, not one universal “cutoff” problem. Its TextChatMessage reference includes a MessageTooLong warning, while its support pages describe filtering, communication controls, and translation separately.
If Roblox says the message is too long
The MessageTooLong warning indicates that the content is too long to send. Break the message into shorter parts and try sending them separately. Roblox’s reference documents this warning, but it does not publish a universal character count or say that every long message is silently cut off.
If words are replaced with hashtags or rephrased
Roblox filtering can block inappropriate material and personal information. Roblox Support explains that profanity may be rephrased: “Messages with profanity will be rephrased into a safe and civil message automatically.” Hashtags or altered wording therefore point to filtering, not necessarily a display cutoff. What filtering applies can depend on age-based safety settings. See Roblox’s Safety Features: Chat, Privacy & Filtering.

Do not try to evade the filter. If a message is unexpectedly changed, review its wording and the account’s safety settings instead.
If chat is unavailable or you cannot send messages
Chat access can depend on age group, age check, privacy settings, and region. For friend chat controls, Roblox lists this path: Settings > Privacy & content maturity > Communication > Chat and Party with friends. The options available can vary by account and region. If the setting is restricted, ask the account owner or parent to review it; do not try to bypass age or parental controls. Details are on Roblox’s Chat support page.

If the displayed message looks translated
Some experiences offer automatic chat translation. A translated message may look incomplete or unusual even when the original was sent intact. Use Roblox’s “Option to See Untranslated Message” to compare the original. You can also turn off “Automatic Chat Translation” in Settings. See Roblox’s Automatic Chat Translation support page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the message sends but its ending is visually clipped
Roblox’s developer documentation treats the chat window and bubble chat as separate display surfaces with separate configuration. That distinction is useful for narrowing down the symptom, but it does not establish a universal player setting or a confirmed device-specific cause. Compare the same message in another available chat surface or experience; if possible, check another device as well. These comparisons are diagnostic checks, not guaranteed fixes. Roblox’s documentation is at Chat.

If the text still clips, note where it happens—chat window, bubble, direct or friend chat, or one particular experience—and which device you use. Without those details, the exact cause of a visual cutoff cannot be determined from Roblox’s general guidance.

A quick troubleshooting order
- Record the exact symptom: send warning, hashtags or rephrasing, translation, missing ending, or no chat access.
- If you see
MessageTooLong, split the message into shorter parts. - If words change, treat it as filtering and review the wording and safety settings.
- If you cannot chat, review the account’s communication controls and age or region eligibility with the account owner or parent.
- If translation is involved, compare the untranslated message or switch off Automatic Chat Translation.
- If a sent message is clipped, compare chat surfaces and experiences, and another device if available.
