Why Battlefield 6’s August 2025 Beta Rush Mode Drew Criticism

Some players said Battlefield 6’s August 2025 beta Rush felt too small: reports cited 12v12 matches, tight M-COM areas and no vehicles. Reaction was mixed, and EA defended a tactical, lower-count approach.

The criticism of Battlefield 6’s Rush mode was about more than its 12v12 player cap. During the August 2025 Open Beta, contemporaneous reports described an infantry-only setup with tight M-COM objective areas and close spawns—conditions some players felt made the mode too small and repetitive. Others welcomed the lower count’s more tactical pace, and EA said its design goal was to preserve that deliberate feel. These reports describe the beta, not necessarily the game’s live configuration in October 2026.

What Rush looked like in the August 2025 beta

EA’s August 4, 2025 Open Beta guide scheduled the first weekend for August 9–10 and the second for August 14–17. Rush appeared during Weekend 2. In the mode, attackers plant explosives on M-COM systems while defenders try to defuse them. Destroying the M-COMs moves the fight into another sector; attackers lose if they run out of lives.

Coverage published August 14–15 described the beta version as 12v12—24 players total—and infantry-only. The lack of vehicles was part of the criticism, alongside the player cap and map layouts. Those descriptions apply to the beta setup reported at the time.

Why players said the mode felt too small

The 12v12 cap changed the sense of scale

Because Rush funnels teams toward a small number of sequential objectives, the total headcount shapes how large and crowded each attack feels. Some players comparing the beta to earlier Battlefield Rush wanted a broader, more large-scale fight. GameSpot reported objections to both the 12v12 limit and the absence of vehicles; streamer Westie, quoted in its coverage, called for the version to be removed and cited “insane balance problems.” Such comments illustrate criticism, not a representative measure of player opinion.

Tight M-COM areas and close spawns intensified the pressure

PC Gamer’s Morgan Park described the Iberian Offensive M-COMs as visible from one another and said defender spawns could be close to attackers. Park also noted some similarly tight sites on Cairo and Empire State, while judging Liberation Peak the beta map that played most like familiar Rush. These are the outlet’s observations about the beta layouts, not official measurements or a universal assessment.

For critics, the combination of a compact player count, closely spaced objectives and nearby spawns made fights feel cramped and repetitive rather than expansive. Some also felt the infantry-only setup removed an important part of Battlefield’s large-scale identity.

Vehicles were a separate point of friction

Contemporaneous reports described beta Rush as infantry-only, and some players specifically objected to the lack of vehicles. That preference is not universal: a player can reasonably value vehicle-driven scale while another prefers an infantry-focused objective fight.

Not everyone wanted a larger, more chaotic Rush

PC Gamer also quoted a player who called Rush their favorite beta mode so far, while still saying the maps were too small. That player liked how the lower count allowed more tactical play and less chaos. The split matters: reactions included sharp criticism, but the smaller format was not universally disliked, and individual posts or quotations do not establish a community consensus.

What EA said about Rush’s player count

In its August 21, 2025 Open Beta debrief, the Battlefield Team said the Rush discussion concerned both player count and how maps played. EA’s rationale was that dense defense can overwhelm attackers, stall the frontline and end matches in the first sector. The team described 12v12 to 16v16 as a typical historical Rush range and said it would lower the default count to improve combat flow. Its stated aim was: “Based on feedback throughout recent titles, we’re lowering the default player count for Rush to improve the flow of combat and restore the tactical, methodical experience that defines the mode.”

That is EA’s explanation for the design direction, not a response that proves every beta complaint was resolved. The team said players seeking larger-scale Rush could experiment with player counts in Portal. EA also described the Open Beta maps as smaller and faster-paced than the larger maps in its launch package, and said it would bring feedback and in-game learning into upcoming Battlefield Labs sessions. It named Mirak Valley and Operation Firestorm as maps to test in Battlefield Labs; that statement does not establish the quality or current availability of later Rush maps.

What the beta criticism does—and doesn’t—tell you

The August 2025 reports help explain why some players called Rush “too small” or used slogans such as “Rush is dead”: they objected to the 12v12 scale, infantry-only play and cramped-feeling objective areas. They do not establish that all players agreed, or that the same configuration describes the live game in October 2026. The useful distinction is between the beta’s reported experience and EA’s stated design intent: critics wanted more room, scale or vehicles, while EA emphasized tactical pacing and the risk that overly dense defense would halt attacks.
