If Minecraft will not join Hypixel, the cause is usually one of five things: the wrong edition, the wrong server address, an unsupported game version, a problem on your computer or local network, or an external factor between you and Hypixel. Hypixel’s own support guidance covers all five, but it cannot name your exact cause without the error text and setup details. Work through the checks below in order, and change only one thing at a time so you can tell which change mattered.
Step 1: Confirm you are on Java Edition on PC or Mac
Hypixel requires a PC or Mac Minecraft account, meaning Java Edition. Its “How to Join the Hypixel Server” article, dated March 20, 2025, states that the Windows 10 version of Minecraft, Pocket Edition, and console versions will not work.

- Java Edition on Windows or macOS: this is the supported path.
- Bedrock-based editions (the Windows 10 version, mobile, and consoles): these will not connect, so the problem is the edition itself, not your network.
If you are unsure which edition you launched, open the game’s launcher and check the installed profile. If you only own a Bedrock or console copy, Hypixel cannot be joined with it.
Step 2: Enter the correct server address
The address is mc.hypixel.net. In Java Edition, go to Multiplayer, select Add Server (or edit an existing entry), and paste the address into the Server Address field. Typos, extra spaces, a leftover port number from another server, or an old saved entry pointing elsewhere will all produce a failed join that looks like a network fault.

Step 3: Use a supported game release
Hypixel’s version guide was last updated October 4, 2025. At that date it listed the following:

Because the supported list changes with new releases, check the current version guide before assuming your version is still accepted. If you use a launcher profile, confirm that the profile is set to a supported release rather than a snapshot or a leftover test build.

Step 4: Restart and test without mods
Hypixel’s general connection checklist, from its “Solving Lag and Connection Issues on Hypixel” article (updated March 7, 2024), starts with a restart and removing modifications. Do them in this order:
- Close Minecraft completely, then restart the computer.
- Launch Minecraft and try to join
mc.hypixel.netagain. - If it still fails, move your
modsfolder out of the game directory (or disable the mod loader profile) and retry with a clean, unmodified install of the same supported version. - If the clean install joins, add mods back one at a time to find the one that breaks the connection.
Step 5: Flush your DNS cache
Hypixel’s guide gives platform-specific instructions for flushing DNS. The standard commands are:

- Windows: open Command Prompt as administrator and run
ipconfig /flushdns. - macOS: open Terminal and run
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache, thensudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder.
A stale DNS entry can keep the client trying an outdated address. Flushing it is harmless, but it will only help if DNS was the problem.
Step 6: Reduce network load and test a wired connection
Pause large downloads, game updates, cloud backups, and streams while you test, because these can saturate your connection and cause timeouts. Then, if you normally use Wi-Fi, test with an Ethernet cable. Hypixel’s guide states: “Wired connections are generally more stable than Wi-Fi.” A wired test that joins reliably points toward your wireless link as a factor. A wired test that fails too tells you the wireless link is not the only problem.

Step 7: Consider factors outside your computer
Hypixel’s guide says: “Sometimes, problems like server distance, CloudFlare issues, or other external factors can affect your connection to Hypixel.” Distance and routing are outside your control, and you should not assume a service outage without evidence. If the checks above pass but the connection still fails, Hypixel’s checklist recommends contacting your internet service provider.
Step 8: Escalate with a diagnostic report
If the problem persists, Hypixel’s guide suggests running an MTR (a network route and packet-loss test) using its linked instructions and sending the results to support. Then open a ticket using the support ticket guide, dated January 31, 2025, and include your current Minecraft username, which Hypixel asks for.

To make the ticket useful, also include:
- The exact error message or disconnect text, copied word for word or as a screenshot.
- The Minecraft release and launcher profile you used.
- Whether a clean install without mods produces the same result.
- Your connection type (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and the checks from this guide you have already tried.
Without the error text and these details, support and any guide can only offer general steps, because the same symptom can come from different causes.
