Roblox is available as a free app on Xbox, so being unable to play usually points to a local Store, family-permission, age, account-linking, moderation, or app problem—not a need to buy new equipment. Check the issue in order: confirm the app is available in your region, review a child account’s permissions, verify the Roblox login and linked Xbox Gamertag, then troubleshoot any error code.
First, identify what is stopping you

Check whether Roblox is available in your local Xbox Store
Microsoft lists Roblox – Xbox as free with in-app purchases. Search for Roblox in the Store on your console. A listing that does not appear may reflect regional availability rather than a fault with the console.
Roblox Support’s country article says the app is available in “over 36 countries for Xbox One,” but the page has no visible publication or update date. Treat that as an undated statement, not a current complete list or a verified 2026 count. Confirm availability through your own region’s Store. See Roblox’s country-availability information.
Review child-account and family permissions
If the player uses a child account, ask the adult who manages the Xbox family account to check whether Roblox is allowed to launch and whether the child can use the relevant online features. Roblox identifies permission to join multiplayer experiences and permission to see and share user-created content as important settings.

Roblox says an app-permission prompt appears if the child’s content access is set below “Appropriate up to age 10.” Menu names and paths can change, so use Roblox’s Xbox login and family-permission guidance for the current instructions.
Check age settings, password, and the selected Gamertag
- Match the age settings: Roblox says the age setting on Xbox must match the age on the Roblox account. Its Xbox availability guidance is for ages 10 and up.
- Use Roblox credentials: Enter the Roblox username and password. Facebook Connect is not available through Xbox.
- Confirm the Xbox profile: If the wrong Gamertag is selected, Roblox says the app’s home screen offers the signed-in Gamertag as a profile choice.
- Check for an existing link: A Roblox account can be linked to only one Xbox Gamertag. If the account is already linked to another one, that may explain why a new link fails.

What Roblox Error 901 means
Error 901 can have more than one cause, depending on what you were doing when it appeared:
- During signup: Check the username. Roblox’s rules require 3–20 characters, using letters or numbers and at most one underscore. An underscore cannot be the first or last character; the name also must not be inappropriate or contain personally identifiable information.
- While signing in or linking: Roblox suggests signing in on another device connected to the same home network, then trying again on Xbox.
- If the account may be moderated: Check the Roblox account from another device. Roblox lists account moderation as another possible reason for the error.

If Roblox will not start or experiences will not load
Roblox directs players with general Xbox app problems to Microsoft’s troubleshooting steps for an Xbox One app that will not start. Its support guidance says those steps also apply to general app problems, not just a failure to launch. Start with Roblox’s Xbox general troubleshooting article, which links to Microsoft’s instructions.
If the problem persists, contact Roblox Support and include the Xbox Gamertag, Roblox username, exact error message or code, and any relevant recent account or network changes. Roblox notes that Gamertags are case-sensitive.

Some Roblox features are not available on Xbox
Roblox says Xbox players can join available experiences with players on PC, Mac, and mobile. However, the Xbox app does not offer every Roblox feature. Roblox specifically identifies creating or joining groups and adding Roblox friends as features that players can use on PC, Mac, or mobile instead.
