First, identify where launch fails
Before changing settings, note your platform, storefront or game edition, the exact error text, and the last screen you see. A game that never opens points to a different branch than one blocked by a license lock or one that starts but cannot connect online.

- PC: Record whether you launch through Ubisoft Connect, Steam, or another authorized storefront, along with your Windows version and hardware.
- PlayStation: Note whether you use a disc or digital copy, whether the game is installed on external storage, and whether a lock icon or error code appears.
- Xbox: Ubisoft lists Watch Dogs 2 for Xbox One, but the official console troubleshooting guidance linked here is for PlayStation. Use Xbox and Ubisoft support instructions for your specific error rather than following PlayStation menu paths.

If Watch Dogs 2 will not launch on PC
Compare your PC with the published requirements
Steam’s current Watch_Dogs 2 support listing, accessed in 2026, lists Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit Windows, at least 6 GB of RAM, and 27 GB of available storage. Its minimum CPU and graphics requirements are also listed on the page. These are published baselines, not a promise that every configuration will start successfully. The listing says broadband and a valid Ubisoft account are needed for activation and online/account features.

Check the full requirements against your system on Steam Support’s Watch_Dogs 2 technical-issues page. If your system meets them, continue with the symptom-specific checks rather than treating the requirements as proof that installation or launch components are working.
Check Easy Anti-Cheat if the game reports it missing
Easy Anti-Cheat is required for Watch Dogs 2; Ubisoft says the game cannot launch if this component has been uninstalled. If you see a missing-component error, Ubisoft’s support guidance describes running EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe from the EasyAntiCheat folder in the game installation to address that missing-installation state. Follow the instructions on Ubisoft Help’s Easy Anti-Cheat guidance. This step is for the specified anti-cheat problem; it is not an established remedy for unrelated crashes or errors.

Use Ubisoft’s troubleshooting and escalation path
For crashes or performance problems, Ubisoft directs players to its game troubleshooting guidance. If the issue continues, Ubisoft Help asks players to contact support and attach DxDiag and MSInfo reports. These reports provide system details that can help support investigate a PC-specific failure.
- Work through Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs 2 technical troubleshooting guide for the symptoms you see.
- If the problem persists, contact Ubisoft Support and include DxDiag and MSInfo reports, your exact error text, storefront, Windows version, and the point where launch stops.
If the game opens but you are dealing with a connection problem, Ubisoft’s separate PC connectivity troubleshooting guide advises checking service status or maintenance and network stability. Connectivity checks are relevant to connection failures; they do not establish a fix for a local crash or a game that never opens.

Treat Windows and high-core-count reports as clues, not confirmed causes
Player discussions describe silent launch failures on some newer Windows and high-core-count PC configurations, but reports disagree about causes and workarounds. Ubisoft has not confirmed a universal Windows 11 incompatibility or a specific high-core-count limit in the cited guidance. Avoid BIOS changes, disabling security software, or processor-affinity tweaks as if they were verified fixes; a community workaround is anecdotal and can create separate problems.

Check the copy, storage, and account first
- For a disc copy, check that the disc is clean and correctly inserted.
- If the game is installed on external storage, verify that the drive is connected.
- If a lock icon appears, check that you are using the account that owns the game and that the purchase or subscription access is valid. Review sharing settings if they apply to your setup.

Follow Sony’s troubleshooting sequence
Once you have checked access and storage, Sony’s guidance includes restarting the console, restoring licenses, deleting and redownloading the game if needed, updating system software, and rebuilding the database through Safe Mode. Reinstallation and database rebuilding can take time, so begin with the less disruptive checks and use the official instructions for the exact menu paths and Safe Mode procedure.
If you contact PlayStation Support, provide any error code, explain what happens and how to reproduce it, and include a screenshot or video where possible.

There is no single confirmed cause for every Watch Dogs 2 launch failure, and the cited official material does not give a prevalence rate that would justify calling one cause the most common. Windows version, hardware, anti-cheat state, account access, storage, and failure stage all change which checks make sense. Use the error and platform to narrow the diagnosis instead of applying a workaround meant for a different symptom.
