Why Did Disney Quietly Delist 14 Games From Steam in January 2026?

Fourteen Disney games vanished from Steam in January 2026 without an announced explanation. Licensing is only speculation, and a second wave followed in April.

Disney’s reason for removing 14 games from Steam in January 2026 has not been established. Contemporary reports said the games disappeared without warning, and Disney had not publicly explained the decision. Licensing problems have been suggested as a possibility, but that remains speculation—not a confirmed cause.

What happened to the 14 Disney games on Steam?

PC Gamer reported on January 19, 2026, that 14 games had been removed from Steam without advance warning. GamingBible reported the same list on January 16 and said the titles were unavailable on Steam at that time. These are accounts of the January event, not a current check of every store listing.

  • Phineas and Ferb: New Inventions
  • Disney’s Hercules
  • Stunt Island
  • Afterlife
  • The Princess and the Frog
  • Cars Radiator Springs Adventures
  • Disney Fairies: Tinker Bell’s Adventure
  • Toy Story Mania
  • Disney Winnie the Pooh
  • Lucidity
  • Disney Planes
  • Armed and Dangerous
  • Chicken Little Ace in Action
  • Finding Nemo

Reports from PC Gamer and GamingBible independently gave the same 14-title list. PC Gamer’s January 19 report and GamingBible’s January 16 report describe the historical Steam removals.

Why did Disney delist the games?

No explanation was established in the January reports. PC Gamer said it had contacted Disney and would update its coverage if it received a response; GamesRadar+ also reported that Disney had not issued a statement. The reporting therefore supports saying the reason was unknown—not that Disney confirmed any particular motive.

Licensing is a theory, not a confirmed cause

Licensing issues were floated as one possible explanation, but the reports did not verify that theory. No confirmed evidence in those accounts establishes licensing, low sales, a technical problem, a change in strategy, or plans for a collection as the cause. GamesRadar+’s coverage likewise reported no Disney explanation.

Can you still play a game you already bought?

A January 18 report from IT之家 said that people who had already purchased the games could continue playing them from their libraries. That is a reported distinction between removing a game from sale and deleting a previous purchase; it is not a guarantee about future downloads, updates, compatibility, or uninterrupted access. IT之家’s report describes the library access available to existing owners at the time.

Disney Afternoon Collection - Nintendo Switch
  • BONKERS (SNES): This wacky platformer is packed with Easter eggs for Disney fans. Navigate six levels of Toontown in search of items that have gone missing – the Sorcerer's Hat, the Mermaid's Voice, and the Magic Lamp.
  • GOOF TROOP (SNES): A family, co-op adventure starring father-son duo, Goofy and Max. Solve puzzles as they try to rescue their friends from a pirate island. Goof Troop is one of game developer Shinji Mikami’s (Resident Evil, Dino Crisis) earliest games.
  • DUCKTALES (NES) and DUCKTALES 2 (NES): DuckTales for NES (1989) was one of Capcom’s biggest hits. Play as Scrooge McDuck with a cane that doubles as a weapon and a pogo stick. The multi-path levels are packed with secrets and surprises, along with a great soundtrack. The sequel is just as fun.
  • CHIP ‘N DALE RESCUE RANGERS (NES) and CHIP ‘N DALE RESCUE RANGERS 2 (NES): A duo of early 8-bit, co-op platformers featuring loveable chipmunk detectives. Work together to walk and jump through levels, picking up acorns, boxes, and other objects to throw at your enemies.
  • The physical edition includes a treasure trove of exclusive physical goodies: 8 retro milk caps, 3 collectible cards, and 2 sticker sheets!

Were more Disney games delisted later?

Yes. PC Gamer reported on April 14, 2026, that 15 additional Disney-associated games had been delisted from Steam, three months after the January wave. The April article said Disney still had not given a reason. It also discussed licensing and a possible Epic Games Store exclusivity arrangement as theories, not confirmed explanations. PC Gamer’s April 14 report covers that later wave.

Adding the 14 games reported in January to the 15 reported in April gives 29 removals across the two reported 2026 waves. That is a count derived from those articles, not a formal total announced by Disney.

Does delisting mean the games are unavailable everywhere?

No such broad conclusion follows from the Steam reports. They describe removals from Steam, and the cited reporting does not verify the current purchase status of every title across all storefronts. Check the specific game’s live store listing before assuming it can—or cannot—be bought elsewhere. SteamDB maintains a dynamic third-party catalog and is not Steam itself; it also disclaims affiliation with Valve and Steam. SteamDB’s Disney publisher catalog is a reference, not a live audit of every storefront.
