Roblox chat can disappear because the account has not completed an age check, communication is disabled in account or parental settings, or the current experience does not offer chat. On a computer, a keyboard-layout issue can also stop the chat window from opening. Start by checking whether chat is missing in one experience or everywhere, then check age eligibility and communication controls.
First, find out whether chat is missing in one experience or everywhere
Try another Roblox experience. If chat is absent only in one, that experience may not have chat enabled: Roblox says the chat window opens when the experience developer enables it. In the experience menu or Experience Controls, check for a Chat toggle if one is available. Roblox Support: Experience Chat · Roblox Creator documentation: Chat
If chat is missing across experiences, check account eligibility and communication settings next. Roblox does not identify the cause for an individual account from the general support guidance alone.
Check age eligibility and consent
Roblox says users must complete an age check to access Experience Chat. Its support guidance lists facial age estimation and ID verification as age-check methods; phone verification is not presented as a substitute. If Roblox detects a discrepancy in an account’s age, it may request another age check. Roblox Support: Experience Chat · Roblox Support: Age ID Verification

Completing an age check does not by itself guarantee that every communication feature is available. Age group, consent requirements, settings, account type, and region can also matter. For Experience Chat, Roblox says users aged 5–9 need parental consent to enable it. For Direct Chat, users under 16 need parental consent. These rules apply to the specific features named; do not assume one age or consent rule governs every Roblox communication feature. Review Experience Chat settings
For your own account, open Settings → Privacy & content restrictions → Communication → Experience chat. Roblox says users cannot turn chat on in settings until they have completed an age check. The exact labels may vary as interfaces and feature rollouts change; if the path differs, look for the Communication section. Roblox Support: Experience Chat

If a parent manages a linked child account, the parent can check Settings → Parental Controls → Settings You Manage → Communication → Experience chat. A parent’s communication controls may restrict access. Roblox’s guidance also describes parental-consent requirements for certain ages and features, so check the setting for the particular chat type rather than assuming all communication controls are identical. If you play on a computer, test the chat key
Press / to open the chat window. Roblox notes that an international keyboard layout can interfere with the usual key and recommends trying instead. This is a keyboard-input workaround: it will not enable chat that is unavailable because of account eligibility, settings, or the experience itself. Roblox Support: Experience Chat

Roblox also describes changing Windows keyboard region settings as a possible workaround, but warns that doing so can affect other programs. Consider that only if the key test points to a layout problem, not as a general fix for missing chat. Roblox Support: Experience Chat

Roblox says some settings have additional regional restrictions, and chat defaults or availability can differ by age group, account type, and feature rollout. A setting or instruction that applies to one account may therefore not appear or work the same way for another. If these checks do not explain what happened, the useful details for narrowing it down are whether chat is missing in every experience, whether the account completed an age check, whether a parent manages its controls, the region, and whether you are playing on computer or mobile. Roblox’s general guidance does not determine the state of a specific account or explain a temporary service incident.
