A Roblox private server usually disappears for one of three reasons: its subscription expired because there were not enough Robux on the renewal date, it was canceled and its paid period has ended, or it was one of several free servers for a single game and was affected by the Roblox Plus change that begins September 24, 2026. A server that is still listed but cannot be joined is a separate problem, usually involving privacy settings or the owner’s permissions. Start by finding out which of these you are dealing with, because each one has a different fix.
Sort your symptom first
The fastest way to narrow the cause is to check what you actually see on the experience page. The table below separates the three situations that people often describe with the same words.

Check the server’s subscription status
If the server no longer appears, or appears with an expired status, work through these steps. Roblox’s interface can change, so treat the labels below as they appeared in Roblox Support’s documentation checked on October 8, 2026.
- Open the experience’s page on Roblox or in the app and scroll to the Servers section. Roblox says this section shows private servers you created or belong to, but only when the experience creator has enabled private servers. If the creator has turned the feature off, the page may not show a Private Servers section at all.
- Find the server, open its three-dot menu, and choose Configure.
- Read Subscription Status, Renewal Date, and Expiration Date. These fields tell you whether the server is active, canceled, or expired, and when that happened or will happen.
Expired after a failed renewal
Private server subscriptions are charged as an initial payment followed by monthly renewal on the same calendar date. Roblox’s Private / VIP Servers FAQ states: “If there is insufficient Robux available on the renewal date, then the server will expire and can no longer be used; however, you can purchase a new server at any time.” An expired server cannot be reactivated by adding Robux to the account afterward. If the creator still enables private servers, you can buy a new one, but it is a new server, not the old one restored.

Canceled, but still paid through
Canceling does not end access on the day you cancel. Roblox says you can keep using the server for the rest of the period you have already paid for. The Configure page shows the Expiration Date, so if the server is still there and the date is in the future, it has not yet ended. Once that date passes, the server behaves the same as an expired one.
Roblox Plus and free private servers
The Roblox Plus change is the cause most likely to surprise subscribers, because nothing about the server itself has changed. According to Roblox Support’s Roblox Plus page, the Plus benefit changes to one free private server per game beginning September 24, 2026. If an account had more than one free server for the same game, only one is kept and the extra free servers start to expire. The published wording does not say how Roblox chooses which free server stays active, so if the one you used is the one that expired, the page does not give you a way to choose it back.

What the change does not affect
The same Roblox Plus page states: “Any private servers purchased separately outside of your subscription are entirely unaffected.” A server you bought on its own, outside the Plus benefit, continues under its original payment arrangement. If your missing server was a separately purchased one, the Plus change is not its cause, and you should go back to the subscription status check above.
When the server is listed but you cannot join
A server that still appears in the Servers section is not necessarily gone, but it may be closed to you. Roblox lists these possible causes of Error 524: restrictive privacy settings, a missing invitation or server-member permission, temporary unavailability of the server, and network or device glitches. - Privacy settings on your account. Go to Settings → Privacy & content restrictions → Visibility & private servers → Private servers and check who is allowed to add you to a private server.
- Owner permissions. Ask the server owner to confirm that your username was added to the server’s configuration, or that the Friends Allowed setting is on if you are relying on friendship to get in.
- Age-based defaults. Roblox’s FAQ says users under 13 can only join friends’ private servers by default. A server outside that circle may not be joinable for a younger account without a change from the owner.
- Temporary and device problems. If permissions look correct, try again later, then check your network connection and restart the app or browser. These causes do not remove a server from your list; they only block entry for a time.
The configuration can include up to 50 individual users, according to Roblox’s Private / VIP Servers FAQ. If you are not on the list and the owner has not enabled Friends Allowed, you will not be able to join even though the server is active.
What a Robux purchase does and does not do
Buying Robux can pay for a new private server in an experience where the creator has enabled the feature, but Roblox’s documentation does not describe it as restoring a server that has expired or disappeared. If you see an expired server, the realistic options are to buy a new one, ask the owner whether a replacement exists, or rejoin from a different server listing.
