Bowser does not marry Peach by her choice in either game that usually prompts this question. In Super Paper Mario, the wedding is part of Count Bleck’s scheme, and Peach is forced to say the vows. In Super Mario Odyssey, Bowser himself tries to force Peach into marriage. Neither game gives a single, franchise-wide reason for Bowser’s wish to marry her, so the answer depends on which version of the story you mean.
Which game are you asking about?
The two wedding plots are often confused because both involve Bowser, a bridal gown and a forced ceremony. They differ in who drives the event and what Nintendo’s official material explains.

Super Paper Mario: a wedding planned by Count Bleck
Nintendo’s Japanese Mario history page for Super Paper Mario, which lists the game’s release date as April 19, 2007, describes Peach waking up in bridal clothes with Bowser in groom’s clothes beside her. She is made to say the vows against her will. At that point a mysterious power called the Chaos Heart appears, and the ceremony’s planner is Count Bleck. The official description presents the marriage as a product of Count Bleck’s plan, not a union either character freely chose.
This is the clearest short answer for this game: Bowser is not pursuing a romance here, and Peach is not a willing participant.

- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
Super Mario Odyssey: Bowser’s forced wedding
In Super Mario Odyssey, Bowser attempts to make Peach marry him. The plot is a forced marriage, not a mutual one, and Nintendo’s official pages present it that way. Nintendo’s characters page says Peach is often the target of Bowser’s kidnapping schemes, which places the wedding within a long-running pattern of abduction plots. The official pages reviewed for this article do not give a deeper statement of Bowser’s motive for wanting this particular marriage.
What the official sources do and do not establish
- Established: In Super Paper Mario, Count Bleck arranges the ceremony and Peach is coerced into the vows.
- Established: In Super Mario Odyssey, Bowser’s wedding plot is an attempt to force Peach into marriage.
- Not established: A single psychological explanation for Bowser’s interest in Peach that applies across the franchise.
- Not established: A lasting marriage between the two characters in Mario continuity. The official pages reviewed do not address this.
- Not established: That Peach consented to either wedding in any version.
No named Nintendo creator or representative in the official pages reviewed explains Bowser’s motive, so any broader claim about why he wants to marry Peach goes beyond what the sources support.

Nintendo ties two amiibo figures to the Odyssey wedding theme:
- Bowser (Wedding Outfit) amiibo: Nintendo lists it as part of the Super Mario Odyssey series, with a release date of October 27, 2017.
- Peach (Wedding Outfit) amiibo: According to Nintendo, it can grant a Life-Up Heart in Super Mario Odyssey and unlock a bridal gown costume.
These figures document the wedding costumes and do not explain Bowser’s motive. Retail prices and stock change, so check current listings before buying.
