If your friend didn’t get an Xbox game gift, first check whether it was delivered but overlooked or whether the gift code cannot be redeemed. Xbox says the recipient should receive a message on their console and an email associated with their Xbox account. A wrong recipient or email address, or a country/region mismatch, can also explain the problem. Check the order before assuming the gift is lost.
First, work out whether it is a delivery problem or a redemption problem
If your friend has not seen a gift notification or code, check the delivery channels and the purchase details. If they received a code but it will not work, focus on the account and region used to redeem it. Microsoft’s digital gift terms restrict purchase and redemption to users in the same country or region.

If no notification or code arrived
Check Xbox messages and email
Ask your friend to check messages on their Xbox console and the inbox associated with their Xbox account, including spam or junk folders. Xbox describes both a console message and an email as delivery routes. Checking spam is a practical suggestion from a Microsoft Community Independent Advisor, not an official delivery guarantee. Confirm the selected recipient and address
In the Microsoft account used to buy the game, open the relevant order and verify which friend or email address was selected. If the gift was sent to the wrong address, do not pass a code to someone else until you have confirmed who it is intended for.

Inspect the order in Microsoft order history
Look for the transaction and see whether an active “View code” option is available. A Microsoft Community Independent Advisor suggests checking order history if the email has not arrived after 48 hours. That is community advice, not an official Xbox delivery timetable. Microsoft order history
If your friend received a code but cannot redeem it
Check whether the purchaser and recipient are in the same country or region for the purchase and redemption. Microsoft’s digital gift terms say gifts can only be purchased and redeemed by users in the same country or region, and at participating stores. What to do after checking the order
- Active code available: Share it securely with the intended recipient.
- Code already redeemed: Check the recipient and account details to determine where it was used.
- No active code or usable order option: Contact Microsoft Customer Support; its gift terms direct gift disputes and account-access issues to support.
If you are considering a refund, check the order for a refund option. The title alone cannot identify the cause. The decisive details are the order status, selected recipient and address, delivery notifications, the countries or regions involved, and whether the code has already been redeemed. Start with the purchaser’s order history, then follow the delivery or redemption checks that match what you find.
