First check whether the clip is missing from the console or only from the Xbox app or another device. On Xbox One, open Xbox button > Broadcast & capture > Recent captures to look for it on the console. If it appears there but not elsewhere, check the account and upload destination; if it is an older capture stored on the Xbox network, it may have passed Xbox’s 90-day retention period.
Check where the clip is missing
A clip visible on the console but absent from an app or another device is a different problem from a clip that is missing on the console too. Start with the console’s captures view before assuming the recording failed.
For Xbox One, Microsoft Support documents this route: Xbox button > Broadcast & capture > Recent captures (Microsoft Support). That documented path is specific to Xbox One; the available guidance does not establish the exact current menu path for every console generation or software version.
If the clip is on the console but not in the app
Confirm that the app or other device is using the same Xbox account/profile as the console, and that you are checking the appropriate captures view. Then verify whether the clip was uploaded to the Xbox network or intended for another destination. A console-local capture and a cloud-backed capture view are not necessarily the same thing, so a local copy alone does not establish that an upload took place.

A Microsoft Q&A response says uploaded captures can be viewed in the Xbox mobile app and describes a OneDrive route for Windows 11, but this is independent-advisor guidance rather than a definitive current workflow for every setup (Microsoft Q&A). If the same account and destination are correct and the clip still does not appear, check the current capture settings for your console and Xbox service status for your region.
If an older clip has disappeared
Xbox announced in 2023 that captures stored on the Xbox network are deleted after 90 days. That timer applies to captures stored on the Xbox network, not automatically to a local copy or a separate backup. Xbox Wire’s announcement recommends backing up captures players want to keep and describes OneDrive as a backup option (Xbox Wire, September 27, 2023).

Keep important captures available
If a clip matters to you, back it up rather than relying on the Xbox network copy to remain indefinitely. Xbox Wire describes OneDrive as a backup route. Once you have a separate copy, check that it is accessible from the destination you intend to use; do not assume that a clip appearing on the console means it has been backed up.

- Recheck the console’s captures view and note whether the clip appears locally.
- For a clip missing only from another device, verify the signed-in Xbox account/profile and intended upload destination.
- For an older network-stored capture, consider whether more than 90 days have elapsed since it was stored there.
- Consult the current capture/upload settings and service status for your console and region before trying disruptive steps such as a reset.
The documented sources here do not establish a universal settings path, a present service outage, or one cause that explains every missing clip. Those details can vary by console generation, software version, account and region.
