Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Roblox “freezing” is not one problem. The word can describe a stalled screen, a stuttering picture, other players jumping around, or the whole app stopping and then closing. Each of these points to a different cause, so the fastest fix starts with working out what actually stopped updating.
Start by identifying what stopped
Roblox Support separates lag into three categories: network lag, graphics lag, and system lag. Each one produces a different kind of freeze, which is why the same word can cover several failures. The table below maps the most common symptoms to their likely category and the first check to run.
| What you see | What has stopped updating | Likely category | First check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Other players warp, jump ahead, or your actions respond late | Only other players or delayed actions; your own view keeps moving | Network lag | Test a wired connection, then review connection and firewall settings |
| Picture stutters or looks choppy | Frame updates are uneven; the game keeps running | Graphics lag | Turn off automatic graphics quality and lower the manual setting |
| Whole device slows, fans spin up, other apps lag | The entire computer or device is competing for resources | System lag | Close unneeded high-power apps |
| Crash or graphics error on a computer | Roblox itself stops, often with an error message | Graphics driver or hardware-support issue | Check the supported DirectX feature level and update the graphics driver |
| Problem appears only in one experience | One specific game or place | Experience-specific problem | Try the same device in a different experience |
| Problem appears across many experiences | Everything on Roblox, or a broad service issue | Possible service incident | Check Roblox Status before changing settings |
Because one symptom can have several causes, work through the rows in order rather than changing many settings at once. Changing several things together makes it impossible to know which one helped.
Network lag: other players warp or actions are delayed
Roblox describes network lag as a slow or unstable connection. Its connection guidance lists firewall issues, low bandwidth, and inconsistent wireless connections among the causes of connection and loading problems. A problematic experience can also contribute.

Test a wired connection
If the device can use a wired Ethernet connection, try it. Roblox Support recommends this to rule out wireless instability. If the freezes stop on a wired connection, the wireless link is the likely problem. If they continue, the wired test has still done its job: it has removed wireless as a suspect.
Check firewall and router settings
Roblox’s firewall and router guidance covers cases where a firewall is actually blocking the Roblox client. Allow the client in that case, rather than turning off security protection. Disabling a firewall or antivirus product as a routine fix is not recommended by Roblox, and it leaves the device exposed without addressing the cause.
Collect details before contacting Roblox Support
- The platform you use (computer, mobile, or console)
- The exact error message, if one appears
- Device model and operating system, plus whether you are on Wi-Fi or Ethernet
- Recent changes, such as a new router, a driver update, or a new app installed
Graphics lag: the picture stutters or looks choppy
Roblox Support says weaker graphics performance on a device can cause stuttering or choppy visuals. Its recommended first step is to turn off automatic graphics quality and lower the manual graphics setting in Roblox’s own settings. Lower quality reduces the work the device must do for each frame.

If lowering the setting does not help, close apps that are using significant processing power or graphics resources. This can improve the picture, but visual quality may drop as a trade-off, and Roblox does not promise that this will remove the stutter completely.
What smooth performance means
Roblox’s Creator Hub documentation states that, by default, Roblox games target 60 FPS, which is one frame every 16.67 milliseconds with proper frame pacing. This is a target, not a guarantee: it describes the default goal for Roblox games, and a given experience or device may not reach it. The page available for this article does not state a publication year, so treat the figure as the current documented default rather than a dated measurement.
System lag: the device is short of resources
System lag happens when Roblox and other software compete for the same processor, memory, or graphics capacity. The freeze may affect the whole device, not only Roblox. Roblox’s guidance is to close unneeded high-power apps that are using device resources.

On Windows, Task Manager (press Ctrl+Shift+Esc) shows which apps use the most CPU, memory, and GPU at the moment of a freeze. Close only programs you recognise and do not need. Closing system services or security software is not a Roblox fix and can create other problems.
Computer crashes and graphics errors
Roblox’s computer graphics troubleshooting lists outdated graphics drivers, unsupported graphics hardware, and changed graphics settings as possible causes of crashes or errors. These steps apply to computers only. Mobile and console players should not follow them as written.
Check the supported DirectX feature level
On Windows, open the Run dialog (Windows key + R), type dxdiag, and press Enter. On the System tab, note the DirectX version. Roblox’s graphics guidance asks you to confirm that the card supports the feature level Roblox requires. If the hardware is older or does not support it, a driver update will not fix the crash.

Update the graphics driver from the manufacturer
Download the driver from the graphics card manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel), not from a third-party driver updater. Restart the computer after installing it, then test Roblox again. If the crash started right after a driver update, the newer version may be the cause, and reverting to the previous version is a reasonable test.

If the freeze happens in one experience but not others, the problem is probably in that experience. Roblox Support says an experience may contain a bad script or too many objects, and that its creator may need to repair it. Report the problem to the creator through the experience’s page rather than changing hardware.
Before buying equipment or changing network hardware, run the same device in a different experience. If the device is fine elsewhere, the issue is specific to the experience and no hardware change is needed.

Freezes across many experiences: check service status
When freezing affects many experiences, check Roblox Status before changing your own setup. When this article was prepared, the status page showed all systems operational. It also listed a degraded-performance incident on October 5, 2026, which was marked resolved.
A resolved incident from a past date does not explain a freeze you experience later. If the status page shows an active incident when you are having trouble, the problem may be on Roblox’s side and local changes are unlikely to help. If the status page is clear and the problem persists, return to the symptom sections above.
Developer tools for creators
Roblox Creator Hub documents tools for developers who want to diagnose performance problems in their own experiences. The MicroProfiler helps distinguish a delay that is sensitive to the network from a frame-time problem inside the experience. The Network Simulator in Roblox Studio can model latency, jitter, and packet loss during testing. These are developer tools, not first-line fixes for players.
What to do next
Identify which part stopped updating, then move through the matching section. Network symptoms call for a wired test and firewall review. Stutter calls for lower graphics settings and closing heavy apps. Crashes on a computer call for a DirectX check and a driver update from the manufacturer. An experience-specific freeze belongs with its creator, and a broad freeze should be checked against Roblox Status first. If none of these match your symptoms, collect the details listed above and contact Roblox Support.
Keep in mind that “randomly” usually means you have not yet found the trigger. Recording when the freeze happens, which experience was open, and what else was running will make the pattern much easier to see.
