If you run the live stream, the most likely reason is that its video source reaches the end and the encoder or hosting service stops sending content. YouTube says an encoder-based stream ends when the encoder stops sending content. To keep a broadcast going, configure the source or service to repeat, and check that it continues sending video after the first pass. If you mean a playlist you are watching, rather than the source feeding a stream you operate, the cause may be on the playback side instead.
First, identify which playlist has ended
“Playlist” can mean two different things here: a viewer’s playlist of videos, or the creator’s playlist or file feeding a live broadcast. The fix depends on which one you mean.

The YouTube-specific checks below apply if the broadcast is on YouTube Live. The question does not identify the player, encoder, host, or playlist app, so exact menu names for those products cannot be assumed.
If you are the viewer
Start with the stream’s own watch page rather than assuming the playlist controls the broadcast. If the watch page also shows that the live stream has ended, the source stream is no longer live. If the watch page still plays but the playlist stopped, the issue may be limited to playlist playback or to what happens after that item; the available information does not establish a particular app’s autoplay setting.

- Check whether the live watch page itself is still playing.
- If it is, try the same watch page on another playback path, such as a mobile device, to see whether the problem is specific to one player.
- If the creator’s broadcast has ended, only the creator can check and restart the stream source.
If you run the YouTube Live broadcast
Why the source ending stops the broadcast
YouTube’s encoder instructions say: “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” An encoder-based live stream depends on a continuing feed. If the only video file or playlist reaches its end and the encoder stops sending, the live broadcast can end too. YouTube’s encoder setup has you enter the live server URL and stream key in the encoder; check that the encoder is still sending data after the source finishes. YouTube’s encoder instructions
Make the source repeat
- Identify what is feeding the encoder: a single video file, a playlist, or a hosted source.
- Enable looping or repeat in that source or service if continuous repetition is what you intend. The exact control depends on the software or host.
- Watch what happens when the source reaches its end. Confirm that the source starts again and the encoder continues sending content rather than stopping.
- If you use a hosted service, check its repeat and restart controls and whether it reports the outgoing feed as active.
A hosted looping workflow is one option for creators who do not want to manage a local source. Follow the service’s current controls and terms; this is an example of a vendor-described workflow, not evidence that your current host has the same settings.

Check whether the feed or only one playback path failed
YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend using Live Control Room and checking playback paths to diagnose stream issues. YouTube’s live-streaming tips
- Look at the Live Control Room preview and status: does it show an incoming feed?
- If you record locally, check that the archive file is present and still growing while the broadcast is meant to be live.
- Check whether the event is available on the channel’s watch page and whether it plays on mobile.
- Monitor audio and video, not just the live indicator. A connected feed can still have a source or quality problem.
- If the preview and outgoing feed have stopped, investigate the source, encoder, or host. If they remain active but one watch page does not play, compare another playback path before changing the source.
Do not mistake YouTube’s 12-hour notes for a live cutoff
YouTube’s archive guidance says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. Its DVR guidance separately warns that rewind can be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours.
