OBS is not necessarily the part skipping episodes. First check where the playback happens: YouTube manages podcast playlists and their episode order, while OBS sends a live broadcast to YouTube. If viewers hear or see the wrong episode next, inspect the YouTube playlist; if OBS is playing local files, the source and its playback configuration need to be examined separately.
First identify what is skipping
“YouTube Live playlist” can describe different playback paths. The distinction matters because the available documentation does not establish a single cause for episode skips.
| What you see | Where to investigate |
|---|---|
| A viewer watching a YouTube podcast playlist gets an unexpected next episode | Check the playlist’s contents and order in YouTube Studio. YouTube describes a podcast show as a playlist and each episode as a video. YouTube Help: Create a podcast in YouTube Studio. |
| An OBS scene is playing local media and advances past an episode | Inspect the specific playback source, its queue, and its configuration. The available official sources do not document which local-source setting would explain or fix a skip. |
| The live picture or sound stutters or disconnects, but the episode sequence is right | Check OBS’s connection and dropped-frame indicators. That points to stream delivery, not proof that OBS caused a whole-episode skip. OBS: Dropped Frames. |
Check the YouTube podcast playlist
Confirm the episodes are there and in the intended order
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the podcast playlist.
- Check that the expected full-length episodes are included. YouTube says a podcast show is a playlist and each episode is a video; it advises adding podcast features only to playlists containing full podcast episodes. See YouTube’s podcast guidance.
- Review the sequence. YouTube recommends newest-to-oldest ordering for episodic shows and oldest-to-newest for serial shows. Reorder episodes in Studio if the playlist does not match the format of the show. See YouTube Help.
- Watch the playlist in the same way the affected viewers do and note which video plays before and after the apparent skip. This helps distinguish an unexpected playlist sequence from an interruption during playback.
Review podcast classification only if it is unexpected
YouTube may automatically classify a playlist as a podcast, and its documentation provides a way to remove podcast features if the classification is incorrect or unwanted. Review the podcast settings when relevant. The documentation does not say that podcast classification itself makes OBS skip episodes, so changing this setting should not be treated as a confirmed fix for skips. See YouTube Help and YouTube’s podcast settings guidance.
If OBS is playing local episodes
A YouTube playlist and an OBS media-playback source are different things. If the episode files are being played from within an OBS scene, identify the exact source and inspect its queue and playback configuration. The documentation available here does not establish a particular OBS control or setting as the cause of local playlist skips, so a reliable fix depends on the setup.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Note which source is playing the files and whether the skip occurs in OBS’s local preview, the viewer-facing stream, or both.
- Write down the episode that should play and the one that actually plays next.
- Check whether the same sequence occurs when watching the source outside the live broadcast.
These details narrow down whether the problem is local media playback or something occurring during delivery to viewers; they do not, by themselves, prove a particular cause.
If the symptom is a stream interruption
OBS’s official guidance describes dropped frames as a connection or bitrate symptom: the connection may be unstable, or the selected bitrate may exceed what it can sustain. Check the dropped-frame and connection indicators when the live broadcast stutters or drops. This is a useful stream-delivery check, but the guidance does not identify dropped frames as a cause of entire podcast episodes being skipped. See OBS: Dropped Frames.

What to include when asking for help
The title alone does not identify the playback path, so a conclusive diagnosis needs a few specific details:
- Where the playback occurs: YouTube’s player, an OBS scene playing local files, or another player.
- If OBS is playing media, the source type and its relevant playback configuration.
- The playlist’s video order and which episode was expected next.
- Whether the skip appears in the viewer-facing stream, only in OBS’s preview, or in both.
- Whether the symptom is a wrong episode sequence or a playback interruption, such as stuttering or a dropped connection.
