Each cabin houses one farmhand. If an available cabin is already visible, check that the farm is open in the right co-op mode and that the platform’s cabin limit has not been reached; mods or a save/network error can also be involved.
What “No Available Cabins” means
In Stardew Valley multiplayer, a cabin is the housing slot for one farmhand. The host needs an unoccupied cabin for each joining player. A cabin that exists but is already occupied does not provide another slot. See the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Cabin page for the cabin’s function and limits.

Check the farm’s cabin count and platform limit
Count the cabins and the farmhands already living in them, then check the limit for the platform hosting the farm. The Stardew Valley Wiki reports a maximum of up to seven cabins on computer and Nintendo Switch 2, and up to three on other consoles. Limits differ by platform, so adding a cabin may not be possible once the applicable cap is reached.
Make sure the farm is open in the right multiplayer mode
Starting a new multiplayer farm
Cabins can be selected when creating a multiplayer farm. Make sure the new farm has enough cabins for the players who will join.

Joining an existing save remotely
For remote co-op on an existing single-player save, the host should build a cabin, save and exit, then reopen the farm through Co-Op. The Multiplayer page explains the setup paths for remote and local play.
Playing local split-screen
For local split-screen, build a cabin for each additional player, connect the controllers, and start Local Co-op from Options. A cabin alone does not start split-screen; the host must launch the local co-op mode.
Build a cabin if the farm has room for one
The host can add a cabin at Robin’s Carpenter’s Shop by choosing “Construct farm buildings.” The Stardew Valley Wiki lists the cabin cost as 100g and says construction is instantaneous. See the Carpenter’s Shop page for the shop details.
Do not demolish a cabin as a first troubleshooting step: according to the Cabin page, demolition permanently removes the farmhand occupying it from the game.

If a free cabin is visible but the warning remains
A visible cabin does not prove that the cause is a simple shortage. Forum reports describe the warning in cases involving mods and a save/network error, but these are anecdotal reports, not a universal diagnosis or official fix.
Quick Recap
Rank #4
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
- Confirm the cabin is unoccupied and that the host is below the platform’s cabin limit.
- Confirm the host opened the save in the appropriate remote Co-op or Local Co-op mode.
- If the farm uses mods, try a test with mods disabled. A 2022 Stardew Valley Forums report says the issue went away after removing mods; that does not establish that mods are always the cause.
- If it still fails, check the SMAPI log if applicable and note any save or network errors. A March 2024 forum report described an error reading farmer friendship data and said adding another cabin did not help. That report is a clue to investigate, not proof of a general fix.
