That message means YouTube has not cleared your channel to live stream using the method you selected, but the message alone does not identify why. In YouTube Studio, check Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility, then look for verification prompts and any live-stream restriction or policy notices. The 50-subscriber minimum applies to mobile live streaming—not to every way of going live.
Check the requirements that apply to your streaming method
YouTube’s general live-stream guidance says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. You must also be at least 16 to live stream. Which additional requirements apply depends on whether you are using a phone or a computer.
| Method | Subscriber requirement | Other checks |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile app | At least 50 subscribers | Verification, no recent live-stream restrictions, and first-time activation may take up to 24 hours |
| Computer webcam or encoder | The mobile-specific 50-subscriber minimum does not apply | Verification and no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days |

Troubleshoot the message in order
- Identify your method. If you are trying to stream from the YouTube mobile app, check the 50-subscriber minimum. If you are using a webcam or encoder on a computer, do not assume that mobile threshold applies.
- Check feature eligibility. In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and review the live-streaming and verification status. Phone verification unlocks live streaming among other features. If you are a manager or editor rather than the channel owner, your ability to complete verification may depend on the channel type and your role. See YouTube’s feature-access guidance.
- Look for restrictions or policy notices. Review Studio and the email associated with the channel for a live-stream restriction, Community Guidelines notice, removed-stream notice, or copyright action. YouTube says a Community Guidelines strike, a removed live stream, or a copyright match to another live broadcast can lead to restrictions. Its restriction email includes details and appeal instructions. Do not try to evade an active restriction by streaming through another channel; YouTube prohibits circumvention. See YouTube’s live-stream restriction guidance.
- If streaming from mobile, verify the subscriber count and activation time. The channel needs at least 50 subscribers, and YouTube says the first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours after live streaming is turned on. This wait applies to first mobile activation; it is not a general explanation for every eligibility message.
- Check the age requirement. YouTube says a person must be at least 16 to live stream. Someone under 16 may participate from an adult-owned account only if the adult is visibly present. Consult YouTube’s live-streaming guidance and restriction guidance for the applicable details.
- If everything looks eligible, contact YouTube. The message does not expose every account-specific cause. Use YouTube’s feedback option or an eligible Creator Support route rather than guessing at an unpublished threshold or longer activation delay.
Why the message can appear even when some features are enabled
Feature eligibility can show that certain channel features are enabled without resolving every condition for the particular route you are trying to use. For example, the mobile app has its own subscriber requirement and first-activation timing. Check the mobile-specific requirements as well as the channel’s Studio status. The exact cause for an individual channel cannot be determined from the generic message alone; use the notices and eligibility details shown for that channel.

Copyright and policy issues to check
A restriction is an access issue, not something a new camera, microphone, encoder, or cloud service can remove. Check YouTube’s notice for the reason and follow its appeal instructions if you believe a restriction is mistaken. YouTube says a copyright match to another live broadcast can also lead to a live-stream restriction, so avoid retransmitting material unless you have the necessary rights.
