If the Avatar editor shows the outfit but the image is wrong or outdated, try Roblox’s redraw option. A default-looking avatar or a grey-block character can have different causes, so match the fix to what you see.
Why isn’t my Roblox avatar wearing my clothes?
Check the account, inventory, and equipped items
- Make sure you’re signed into the Roblox account that owns the clothing or accessory.
- In a browser, open Inventory, choose the relevant category and subcategory, and look for the item. Roblox’s inventory instructions say an owned item’s page displays “Item Owned” with a checkmark.
- On mobile, select the item and set “Wear This” to “Yes.” Depending on the regional rollout, the Avatar tab may instead be labeled “Me.” See Roblox’s mobile avatar instructions.
Owning an item does not automatically mean it is currently equipped. Check the wear control for the particular item you want your avatar to use.
Inventory privacy is a separate setting
The inventory visibility setting controls whether other users can view your inventory. Roblox places it under Settings → Privacy & content restrictions → Trading & inventory; choosing “No one” hides the inventory from others. Roblox does not document this privacy setting as a control that removes clothes from your avatar.
Why does my Roblox avatar look different in the image?
Refresh a stale image or Gray X
If the Avatar section shows the intended look but the avatar image is outdated, incorrect, or a Gray X, open the Avatar section and select the “Redraw” link beneath the avatar image. Roblox says the thumbnail may take a few minutes to regenerate. If it remains wrong, clear your browser’s temporary internet files. These are Roblox’s listed steps for an image or rendering problem, not a fix for an item that is absent or unequipped. See Roblox’s avatar display troubleshooting page.

Why did my avatar go back to a default look?
A default-looking avatar may follow a safety reset rather than a loading problem. Roblox Support says, “If your avatar configuration violates our Community Standards, it will be automatically reset to a default look.” Roblox says it sends an in-app message explaining the reset.
- Check your Roblox messages for an avatar-reset notification.
- If the notification offers “Report mistake,” use that control to send feedback.
Roblox says Customer Support does not manually review safety-reset decisions. It also says users generally continue to own the individual items even when that particular configuration cannot be worn. Details are in Roblox Support’s avatar-reset explanation.

Why is my Roblox character a grey block?
A grey-block character can have a different explanation from an old thumbnail. Roblox says some avatar items may be unavailable in certain regions because of local requirements; an unavailable item can cause the whole avatar to render as a grey block. Roblox’s stated step for your own character is to equip or unequip an item in the avatar editor to remove restricted items. Read Roblox’s explanation of avatar item availability.

If checking ownership and equipment, redrawing the avatar, checking for a reset notice, or trying the suggested editor change does not address the symptom, use Roblox’s Contact Support option from the relevant support page. The documentation does not promise a response time or a particular outcome. The Marketplace is where Roblox users browse avatar items; buying more items is not a documented fix for an outfit that should already appear.
