Renegade Raider’s return was a documented point of disagreement among Fortnite players: some veterans saw its rarity as recognition of being there early, while others welcomed access or cared more about the outfit’s look than its scarcity. The discussion shows a visible split, not a measured consensus among Fortnite veterans.
When did Renegade Raider return, and is it available now?
Epic announced Renegade Raider’s return to Fortnite’s in-game OG Season Shop on December 20, 2024, as part of Fortnite OG’s return to Chapter 1 Season 1. The shop offer was scheduled to end on January 30, 2025, at 7 PM ET. It was available through the in-game shop, not the online Item Shop. Epic’s announcement gives the original dates and details.
That offer has ended; its historical return does not establish present availability or a future schedule. Epic says the Item Shop rotates, a particular item may return but is not guaranteed to do so, and Support cannot grant an item that is not currently offered. Check Fortnite’s current official shop for availability. Epic Support explains its shop-return policy.
What did players need to do to unlock it?
During the 2024–25 offer, players needed to earn 1,500,000 XP to unlock Renegade Raider for purchase. XP from any Fortnite experience that awarded XP counted. The thresholds for the other listed items were 500,000 XP for Aerial Assault One, 1,000,000 XP for Aerial Assault Trooper, and 2,000,000 XP for Raider’s Revenge. These were requirements for that ended shop offer, not a current way to obtain the items. Epic’s announcement lists the thresholds.

Why did some veterans object to the return?
For some long-time players, Renegade Raider’s long absence made it a marker of early participation and status. Contemporaneous reporting documented individual posts arguing that bringing it back diminished the perceived value of the item and the dedication associated with owning it early. Those posts show that this objection existed; they do not establish how common it was among veterans. Dexerto’s contemporary coverage describes examples of the backlash.
Why did other players welcome it?
Other players welcomed the chance to obtain an old cosmetic, pushed back against treating access as something to gatekeep, or said they judged the outfit by its appearance rather than its rarity. A contemporaneous r/FortNiteBR discussion thread contains examples of support, indifference, and criticism of the design. It is a discussion, not a poll, so it cannot establish which view was more popular across Fortnite’s player base.
What did the boycott meme—and the original-owner style—mean?
A slogan urging players not to buy the skin circulated alongside parody and mockery of appeals to “respect the OGs.” The meme documented the argument becoming a joke as well as a protest; it is not evidence of a coordinated boycott or representative player sentiment. Know Your Meme’s retrospective account documents the discourse and links to posts.

Epic also distinguished access to the returning outfit from recognition of original owners. Its December 20, 2024 announcement said: “To show our appreciation for those who purchased the Outfits in 2017, you’ll receive an exclusive new Style for Renegade Raider and/or Aerial Assault Trooper early next year.” Epic Support specified that the Black & Gold Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper variants required an original 2017 purchase. Buying Renegade Raider in the 2024–25 shop was not the eligibility condition for that style. Epic Support’s style guidance explains the requirement.

The divide turns on what players think rarity should signify. For objectors, it could represent early participation and a status earned before the item was widely available; for supporters, scarcity was an arbitrary barrier to a cosmetic, and original owners could be recognized separately with an exclusive style. A third response was simply to judge the design without assigning much value to its rarity.
The documented reactions establish visible disagreement, not its proportions. The available reporting, social posts, and discussion thread do not provide a representative survey, so they cannot support claims that most veterans approved, opposed, or even cared about the return.
