Cosmoem weighs 999.9 kg in its official Pokédex entry, even though it stands only 0.1 m tall. The Pokémon Company has not published a canonical reason for that exact figure. What it has published is a thematic frame: Cosmoem is a stage in a life cycle that the company compares to a star’s, and that imagery is the closest thing to an official context for its weight. The number itself is a game-world value, not a measured physical property.
What the official entry lists
The Philippines edition of the official Pokémon Pokédex, accessed in 2026, gives Cosmoem the following details:
- National Pokédex number 0790.
- Height of 0.1 m and weight of 999.9 kg.
- Category: the Protostar Pokémon.
- An evolution display placing Cosmoem between Cosmog and either Solgaleo or Lunala.
The entry also includes an Alola legend: “The king who ruled Alola in times of antiquity called it the cocoon of the stars and built an altar to worship it.” That legend is the only in-world explanation of Cosmoem’s cosmic identity that the entry offers, and it describes reverence rather than mass.
How it compares with Cosmog
The contrast with the Pokémon that precedes it in the sequence is the most striking part of Cosmoem’s data. Cosmog’s official Pokédex entry, also accessed in 2026, lists it at 0.2 m and 0.1 kg, and describes its gaseous body as something that can be blown away by the slightest breeze.

What the official star comparison covers
The Pokémon Company’s corporate article, published on 2026-01-23, describes Cosmog as gaseous and Cosmoem as hard and shell-encased. It then explains that Cosmoem transforms into either Solgaleo, which it describes as radiant, or Lunala, which it describes as light-absorbing. The article says this closely resembles the life cycle of a star.

That framing accounts for several features of the design: the cosmic theme, the shell-like form, and the “Protostar” category, which borrows an astronomy term for a young star still gathering material. It does not, however, say that a star or any particular physical process produces Cosmoem’s weight. The comparison is an analogy about the sequence of forms, and the article does not extend it to the Pokédex number.
What the star comparison explains
- Why Cosmoem is shell-encased and sits between a gaseous form and two light-themed forms.
- Why its category uses astronomy language.
- Why the Alola legend calls it the “cocoon of the stars.”
What it does not explain
- Why the weight is 999.9 kg.
- Why Cosmog, at 0.1 kg, changes into a form listed at 999.9 kg.
- Whether the weight is meant to reflect density, mass, or simply a game-design choice.
Why the 999.9 kg figure has no official cause
Pokémon Support’s guidance article, updated on 2026-01-30, addresses questions of this kind directly. It states: “It is the intent of the Pokémon creators that questions that have not already been answered within the video games, animated movies, or TV shows, be left to the imaginations and interpretations of Pokémon fans.”

In practical terms, the official material answers what Cosmoem is and how its sequence is framed, but it leaves the weight unexplained. Anyone who states a definitive cause is going beyond the canon.

Readers often propose that Cosmoem is a black hole, that it has an extreme density, or that it weighs what it does because it contains a star. None of these claims appears in the official pages reviewed for this article. They can be discussed as fan interpretations of the star imagery, but they should not be presented as Pokédex facts.

Any future statement from The Pokémon Company that explains the weight would supersede the reading offered here. Until then, the accurate answer is that the weight is a listed value without a published reason.
