Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteDeviljho is called “pickle” because fans associate its long, green body with a pickle—and Capcom itself helped popularize the joke. In a 2013 feature, Capcom USA called it “the rage pickle monster.” The exact person who coined the nickname, and when it first appeared among fans, are not documented in the available official sources.
Why does the pickle nickname fit Deviljho?
The visual explanation is plausible: Deviljho is long and green, making the pickle comparison easy to see. But Capcom has not explicitly confirmed that its shape is where the nickname began, so that explanation should be treated as fan interpretation rather than established origin.

Its behavior also suits the joke. Capcom describes Deviljho as a nomadic monster with no fixed territory that must constantly feed because of its body heat. When provoked, its muscles swell and reveal old wounds. The official Monster Hunter 20th-anniversary exhibition later characterized it as an omnivore that eats anything in its path. Those details help explain the “ravenous pickle” image, but they do not prove why the nickname was coined.
What has Capcom actually said?
Capcom USA’s August 29, 2013 feature, “Monster Hunter – Meet the Deviljho”, introduced the creature with the exact phrase “It’s the rage pickle monster!” The feature also calls it “The Evil Joe.” This is direct evidence that Capcom used the pickle joke in public-facing material by 2013; it does not establish that Capcom invented the nickname or made “pickle” an official species name.

Is “pickle” an official name?
No. The official name is Deviljho; “pickle” and “rage pickle” are playful fan-facing nicknames. Capcom’s 2013 wording shows the company embraced the joke, not that it replaced the monster’s official name or formally designated “pickle” as a species name.

Where can you encounter Deviljho?
Deviljho appears in Monster Hunter: World. In a March 22, 2018 post, Capcom’s Yuri Araujo described the update that added Deviljho, including its roaming behavior and hunt context. The post’s details about the special assignment and rewards are specific to that game update and should not be read as current quest-availability guidance: PlayStation Blog: “Face the Fearsome Deviljho in Monster Hunter: World’s Latest Update, Now Live”.
What is known about the nickname’s origin?
The official material establishes that Capcom used “rage pickle” in 2013, but it does not identify the first fan to use the term or provide a coinage date. The shape-based explanation is a reasonable inference, while Deviljho’s hunger adds to the joke; neither is documented as the confirmed origin.
