Grounded multiplayer lag on PC can come from two different problems: network latency, which delays actions or causes players to desynchronize, or low local frame rate, which makes the picture stutter or tear. Work out which one you’re seeing first; graphics settings can help low FPS, but they are not a general fix for network lag.
First, identify what kind of lag you’re experiencing
“Lag” is often used for both slow network response and choppy graphics. The symptom is a useful starting point, though it is not a formal Grounded diagnostic test.
- Likely network latency: actions register late, players appear out of sync, or the problem is mainly noticeable in multiplayer interactions.
- Likely local performance trouble: the image stutters, runs at a low frame rate, or tears on screen. This can happen regardless of whether the network is behaving normally.
Also note who is affected: the host, a guest, or everyone. If you can, change who hosts and see whether the problem follows a particular player, host role, or connection. These comparisons can help narrow down where to look; they do not prove a specific cause.
If the picture stutters or tears, try Grounded’s performance steps
Obsidian’s performance guidance, last updated July 25, 2025, is for low FPS and screen tearing—not a general multiplayer network fix. It advises checking that the PC meets the game’s system requirements. As Obsidian Support puts it: “It is also worth checking to make sure that your computer meets or exceeds the game’s system requirements.”

- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
- Check that your PC meets or exceeds Grounded’s system requirements.
- Update your graphics drivers.
- Switch the game to fullscreen.
- Lower the resolution and graphics settings.
- Lower the frame-rate limit.
- Set motion blur to zero and field of view to 90.
- Lower the render scale.
Change settings one at a time where practical so you can tell which adjustment affects the picture. These steps target local rendering performance; they should not be treated as a fix for delayed multiplayer responses or desynchronization.
If multiplayer actions are delayed, compare players and connections
Start with free checks before buying equipment. Valve’s Troubleshooting Lag describes lag as high network latency that interferes with online play. Its advice is general online-game guidance, not a Grounded-specific diagnosis.

- Check whether the host, one guest, or all players experience the same delay.
- If practical, switch host roles and see whether the symptoms change or follow a player.
- Consider whether the connection is unstable beyond Grounded, rather than assuming the game is the cause.
- If available, compare play over wired Ethernet with play over Wi-Fi. Treat this as a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed solution.
Steam notes that overheating routers have been reported to cause connectivity issues. That does not establish that your router is overheating or that replacing it will solve Grounded lag. The cited guidance gives no Grounded-specific ping threshold or bandwidth target, so avoid treating an arbitrary number as a definitive test.
Check the game version and current issue status
Make sure Grounded is up to date, then check Obsidian’s official issue tracker for relevant reports and their current status. The tracker includes historical multiplayer disconnect, lag, high-ping, and join or host issues marked fixed on live. Those entries may provide context, but a past report does not identify the cause of a new problem or establish that every current lag issue has been fixed.
