If Lords of the Fallen crashes on your PC, start with the publisher’s own steps: set graphics to Auto-Set, update your graphics driver and restart Windows, then check your hardware against the official specifications. Beyond those checks, the documented fixes depend on when the crash happens. Some are dated workarounds from 2023, and no single checklist fixes every crash, so treat the steps below as a sequence to work through rather than a guaranteed cure.
Start with the publisher’s core checks
CI Games’ official support page for the game says: “To help alleviate performance issues on PC, we strongly recommend using the “AUTO-SET” option within the game’s Settings menu under the Graphics tab, which will apply settings that are best suited to your PC configuration and will optimise performance.” Work through these first, in order:

- Confirm the game is on its current build. Recent official patch notes record fixes for specific crashes, so an outdated build can keep a bug that has already been addressed. Check your Steam or Epic client for pending updates before changing anything else.
- Set graphics to Auto-Set. Open Settings, go to the Graphics tab and select AUTO-SET. Launch the game again and test the same scene or action that crashed before.
- Update your graphics driver, then restart Windows. CI Games explicitly recommends current graphics drivers, and its October 13, 2023 troubleshooting post asks players to restart after installing the driver. Install the latest driver from your GPU manufacturer, restart, and test again.
Compare your PC with the official requirements
The figures below come from the game’s Steam listing and CI Games’ support page, both checked for this article in October 2026. Treat them as a compatibility check. Meeting them does not guarantee that the game will not crash, and falling short does not prove that a hardware upgrade is needed.

VRAM is the number to watch. CI Games’ 2023 patch notes link settings that exceed a GPU’s available VRAM to instability and crashes, which is why Auto-Set is the first recommendation rather than manual tuning.

Match the fix to when the crash happens
The fastest route is to identify when the crash occurs. The table maps each pattern to the evidence CI Games has published and the first step to try.

Compatibility settings for a launch crash
This is a workaround from CI Games’ October 13, 2023 post, and it was originally suggested by a community member. The publisher does not establish that these settings are necessary or best on every current Windows installation, so apply them only if the crash happens at launch.

- Open the game’s installation folder and locate
LOTF2.exe. - Right-click the file and choose Properties, then open the Compatibility tab.
- Under compatibility mode, select Windows 8.
- Tick Disable fullscreen optimizations.
- Tick Run this program as an administrator, then click OK.
- Launch the game through
LOTF2.exeand check whether the crash still happens on the first loading screen.
The -nopsos launch option
The -nopsos option is the 2023 workaround for shader and PSO compilation crashes after the first cinematic. In Steam, go to Library, right-click Lords of the Fallen, choose Properties, open General and enter -nopsos in Launch Options. The publisher warned that disabling PSO precalculation can cause micro-freezes the first time you enter a new area, so weigh that trade-off before keeping it. The option was published for the 2023 build, so check that the current build still responds to it, and clear the field if it causes problems.
Verify game files on Steam
Steam’s integrity-verification feature can check installed game files when a game crashes, according to Steam’s help article “Verify Integrity of Game Files.” Menu wording changes between Steam client versions, so follow the labels in your client to find the verification option in the game’s Properties. This step applies only to Steam installations. An Epic installation needs Epic’s own repair tools.

Shared Co-op save-sync crashes
CI Games’ later official Steam patch notes describe a Shared Co-op crash during save synchronization and state that a hotfix fixed it. If that is your crash, updating to the current build is the relevant fix. It does not establish that a single-player or startup crash has the same cause.

CI Games’ October 13, 2023 patch notes said its crash-reporting data identified non-updated GPU drivers, frame-generation instability, engine errors on some 30- and 40-series GPUs, and PSO compilation crashes after the first cinematic. The publisher said it had integrated fixes for those issues and pointed to Auto-Set and -nopsos for cases that persisted. These are CI Games’ own explanations, dated to that patch. They describe the issues the publisher identified at the time, not every crash players see in 2026.

When the crash persists, send CI Games the right evidence
If the steps above do not help, avoid buying hardware as a guess. CI Games asks for specific diagnostics, and a complete report gives support the best chance of reproducing the problem.
- A DxDiag report from your PC, generated with the Windows dxdiag tool.
- Your total hours played.
- Exact steps to reproduce the crash, including when it occurs relative to the loading screen, cinematic or co-op session.
- System details, including your GPU, driver version and the settings you used.
- The GPU debug log and the crash reporter text.
Send these to [email protected]. When the game offers to submit a crash report, submit it rather than closing the prompt, since the report is what CI Games uses to track the issue.
