If the error happens when you try to sign in—not when you create or edit an ID—you may have an account or credential problem instead.
Why EA may reject a new or edited ID
EA’s How to create an EA ID guide says an ID must be a unique identifier between 4 and 16 characters and cannot contain a name or other identifying information. An ID that meets those requirements can still be unavailable because another account uses it.
EA also says its security filter may flag a combination of letters, words, or special characters. EA does not publish the filter’s full rules, so there is no guaranteed character formula for getting an ID accepted. If a proposed ID is rejected, try a different, non-identifying combination rather than repeating the same one.
First identify where the error appears

These are different problems: a rejected ID choice does not by itself mean you have lost access to your account. EA treats sign-in issues separately in its account recovery guidance.

Fix an EA ID rejected during creation
- Check the length. Make sure the ID is at least 4 and no more than 16 characters.
- Remove personal details. Do not include your name or other identifying information.
- Try a different ID. It may already be in use, or the combination may have been flagged by EA’s filter. Because EA does not disclose all filter rules, a new combination is the practical next step.
Change an existing EA ID
EA says you can update an ID through your account settings, but limits ID changes to once every 30 days. Some account changes may also require identity verification. Follow these steps:
- Sign in to your EA Account.
- Open Account Information.
- Choose Edit beside your EA ID.
- Enter a new ID that meets EA’s requirements, then save it. If prompted, complete identity verification.
If you changed your ID within the past 30 days, you may need to wait until the interval has passed before changing it again.

Fix an EA ID or account error at sign-in
Check that you are using the email address or EA ID associated with the account you want to access. EA’s recovery instructions distinguish invalid or recently changed email addresses, expired credentials, and authentication problems, so follow the option that matches the message you see.
- Use EA’s official password-reset or account-recovery flow if your credentials do not work.
- If the account is linked to a platform account, try signing in through that linked account where EA offers the option.
- If recovery does not restore access, contact EA Help. EA says it may help to have the original account email, linked usernames such as your EA ID or console username, and invoice numbers for purchases made through an EA platform.
Protect your account while troubleshooting
Use official EA pages for account changes and recovery. Do not share your password, verification codes, or passkeys with anyone claiming they can fix the account; EA’s account security guidance explains how to protect access.
